Worthwhile notes:
  • Heatsink not included
  • CPU model does have onboard/integrated graphics support
So many deals are built around the series without GPU support (such as the F and X series) so this is a noteworthy inclusion here.

Good luck!

Fix available in a beta BIOS release [asus.com].

Z790 GAMING WIFI7 BIOS 1662
Version 1662 Beta Version
2024/08/09
  • "The new BIOS includes Intel microcode 0x129 and adjusts the factory default settings for the non-K processors, enhancing the stability of Intel Core 13th and 14th gen desktop processors. Updating this BIOS will simultaneously update the corresponding Intel ME to version 16.1.30.2307v4. Please note after you update this BIOS, the ME version remains the updated one even if you roll back to an older BIOS later."
Good luck!

I'd personally steer clear of this bundle until there's been substantially more validation of the microcode fix, and it can be determined with a reasonable degree of confidence that the 14700k will not experience premature degradation. Right now there's still some degree of uncertainty as to whether all the root causes of the degradation are fully addressed.
Also, the previous version of this bundle with the 13700k (performing quite similarly in all but the most heavily multihtreaded workloads) has dropped as low as $450 in the past. So, while $500 is a good price for this bundle, it's not to the extent that's it's an unprecedentedly phenomenal value sufficient to justify the risk.

The fix is in beta, and nobody knows if it really works without affecting advertised performance and features. Some have reported noticeable performance decline due to the fix.

I would steer clear of 13- and 14-gen Intel CPUs until there is clear info regarding the effectiveness and implications of this fix.

It's going to take months if not longer to figure out if they've really fixed it or if the microarch is fundamentally broken and they've just slowed the damage.

Would steer towards this bundle (if not AMD) instead, although 16 GB DDR4 is low for the kit:

Stay away... I regret buying two 13th gen bundles to upgrade two of my 6th gen machines. Always going to be in the back of my head when these are going to crap out and fail.

I have this and this thing gets hot, which means more fan noise. I also have a 12700k and prefer that. Yes the 14700 performs better in games but if that's not a priority for you then you'll be happy with the 12700 as the pc I have with that is basically silent

You can upgrade to 32GB of RAM for $16 more

Words I never thought I'd have to say, avoid this Intel chip and go AMD (7800x3d bundle is the same price) unless you get an incredible deal. Or, if you don't mind the possibility of swapping CPUs down the road.

Shhhh guys, if we drag this out too long AMD is going to think they're the big dogs and will become the next "intel". Then they will charge an arm and a leg for a not-so-much-better CPU upgrade lol.

On that note, I want an x3d hahah
