A great upgrade but I would discourage new adopters. Amazon is aggressively forcing direct revenue from Alexa via regular subscription promos. The prompts are really tiresome. It's like asking your friend to pass the salt and they say "if you like salt, you really should try salt free seasoning would you like me to pass the salt-free seasoning instead". It's unsettling and irritating like living in the Truman show.

You can change the activation word for each device. One of mine is Ziggy, another Echo, and the last is Alexa

Not surprising. Amazon makes these to engage in their services. The devices themselves do not make a profit for Amazon.

I recently bought one for about the same price AFTER trade in 20% discount during prime day. This is a great sounding device. Thinking about getting another but my apartment isn't very big and I already have issues where sometimes the wrong echo device picks up my commands.

Got one to upgrade an Echo Dot.
One nice thing about these 4th Gen is that is has a 1/4-20 mounting hole in the bottom. So you can hang on the wall with a 1/4-20 hanger bold.
Also can use as a remote temp sensor for a Amazon thermostat

How much better is the sound quality compared to the dot 5th gen? They look almost identical from the pictures. I'm not interested in the Zigsbee or hub features.

Trying to decide if I want to replace my 2nd Gen Show 10's with these. We never use the touch screen or watch videos on them. The Echo 4th gen's might sound better.

2 of these will sound much better than 1 show 10 because of stereo, and also spread out the sound in a bigger room. And later on, adding an Echo Sub will have amazing deep bass.

I still have a 3rd generation (the flat kind) and it works fine, but if I play music on it the sound quality is pretty bad.
Is sound quality for things like music any better on this one?
