fyi, there is actually a 5th gen Echo Dot which probably confused me.

just an fyi....you can upload photos to amazon photos (assuming you have amazon prime) and have them display on your Show 10. I use mine for doing that all the time and in my opinion, it has a very nice display. If you don't have amazon prime, get one of those free trials they seem to offer quite often and then upload a bunch of photos during the free trial...just make sure it's the same account that you registered your Echo Show with. Even after your Prime subscription runs out, the photos will still display on the Echo Show.

Yeah, I have used that in the past. We have 3 of the 10's and 3 of the 8's, and a dot with clock. Also have the Google Nest home displays (10" ones). We use Google photos and the photo display on those is awesome. Prefer the Google displays over the Alexa ones.

I have these in theater pair with a fire stick 4k max to "replace" my projector (and TV before that) speakers and disappointed how Amazon lowers its volume - not exclusive to the echo, also the dots, so I imagine it's intentional for theater pair. When the fire stick is turned off the volume returns to normal volume, go figure.

At $35 they're pretty good and in stereo pair I could even recommend at $70 to fill a room on par with the Nest Audio in stereo pair. I just have a strong dislike for Alexa that I have them on mute. Spotify Connect is nice but I'm seeing "waking up (stereo pair name)" more often than not that I have to use the Alexa app (omg how slow is this app). Also, Bluetooth pairing doesn't work with the stereo pair, i.e. your phone or audio source only pairs to one echo speaker at a time.

It's insulting how half baked all smart speakers compared to Sonos. Having a temperature sensor is cool if you have the Amazon thermostat but the presence sensor on these are crap (another reason why I put them on mute) for Alexa routine triggers. Don't even get me started on using them as wireless Eero extenders (dual band, wifi 5, slows your overall network by being the weak link in your network). Amazon/Alexa/Eero is the ecosystem I have SO much regret despite the potential and low price.

tl;dr decent speaker and would even recommend two at this price for stereo pair but expecting these to be anything better than wireless computer speakers quality is setting yourself up for disappointment. Smart features are trash and the app is worse than Sonos

This is a good deal. I have 2 dots and 1 studio and I don't need more sound for the living room.

Dot is perfect with these outlet hangers. It could got to almost any outlet, no wires, no mess!

A great upgrade but I would discourage new adopters. Amazon is aggressively forcing direct revenue from Alexa via regular subscription promos. The prompts are really tiresome. It's like asking your friend to pass the salt and they say "if you like salt, you really should try salt free seasoning would you like me to pass the salt-free seasoning instead". It's unsettling and irritating like living in the Truman show.

I have both. Sound is much better. If you are only listening to news/podcasts and not music than it does not matter much.

I run a routine every evening that tells Alexa to stop "by the way". Helps with the promotional nonsense.
