Please note that as of August 19th, PLUS members only get free shipping on orders over $50.00! $8.00 shipping fee for any order under $50.00. There are other "perks" still available such as 2% Sam's Cashback, and supposed prescription and eyeglass discounts.

For me the $50.00 minimum order size is a deal breaker.

Also be careful now..I ordered a item and paid shipping. It was defective and I returned it in store like always. New policy..system does not refund shipping charges.

To add to that the 2% cash back is only valid in store. It cannot be on sams.com. Curbside orders and scan and go are valid though.

Yep I used a prepaid card. I already had it on the account just in case.

Currently it forces you to keep one card on file as preferred. I couldn't remove all cards even when it was active.
Then just add a disposable card (like the ones you get through rebates). Easy workaround.

I don't know why I keep signing up for this because I dont even go Sam's. In my State you don't need a club membership to get gas at Costco, BJs and Sams. There is always a long line though especially at Costco gas

My last Sam's membership expired in April. Had Plus membership. Have had Costco membership since last 6 years. Despite the fact Sam's is 3 miles from home & Costco is about 5 miles, Don't miss Sam's at all. Unless there is a better deal on new membership

I've had both memberships for 4 years. Sam's longer as there weren't any Costcos near me. Over the last 2 years I've gone to Sam's more(once a week) and Costco less(maybe once every other month) . They have a few things I like at Costco but more at Sam's and the experience is night and day worse. I never use Costco gas as it always is a long life and I've seen several altercations that make it seem unsafe! Yikes. Sam's almost never has a line. And scan and go is a total game changer. It's faster to check out than Giant! The people in Costco are clueless so getting around the store sucks and checkout is ridiculously worse. I hate going there now and would probably go less if it was free. They are raising their rates now too so combine that with door Nazis making it worse, I'm out.

In general, this is true. Sam's cut back on the amount of seasoning salt, though. There are two Sam's near me that I've purchased chicken from. The one consistently has plump chickens that are perfectly cooked and fill the entire container, the other look like Cornish game hens or dried out chickens you'd find in a grocery store. I don't get it. They're about 1/3 of the size, if not more. Costco's chicken is fine, but bland by comparison. I never buy them when I'm there.

This may be a deal breaker for me as well. My current membership ends Monday (8/19/2024).

Free shipping was the main thing I used, along with curbside pickup every 1-2 months. I live too far away from the store for delivery.

Maybe it's just me, but Sam's & Walmart seem to be trying to make ordering items & having them shipped as difficult & costly as possible now. Sam's+ with its extra $$ for purchasing an item for shipping vs. picking it up at the store & the added shipping fees on everything that weighs over 5 lbs. & Walmart items that can be shipped, but are just almost never in stock for shipping.

I found Sam's chickens are just a touch smaller than Costco, but they don't overcook them. Overall, I prefer Sam's.

I think generally thanksgiving deals are better at Costco. Also, furniture and appliances deals are better at Costco. Quality of their in-house brand is very good. And their return policy is very generous. There are a lot of things to like about Costco in terms of prices. That's being said — they are ridiculously behind Sam's in upgrading their digital systems. You have to give credit to Sam's where it's due. Also, Costco has unfortunately become the victim of its own success. Going to the store is half a day's job (especially on a weekend). You like the savings and the perks but you have to contend with having to navigate your cart through crazily congested aisles. And ridiculously long checkout lines. And then parking. And all this while your kids are getting more and more antsy cause of the time it's taking.

In the end, the best approach is to keep Costco membership for the big ticket items. The $60 annual membership will pay for itself with just one big purchase in the year. But do your regular weekend grocery at Sam's. The $20 annual membership (cause let's face it — you never really have to pay the full $50 fee), pays for itself in just preserving your sanity compared to grocery shopping at Costco.

I can see the value in the $20 membership if travel to the club is quick and easy. Unfortunately for me the nearest club is an hour away. (I have actually only been in club once in two years.) Bj's is 20 minutes. Although Sam's Club's prices tend to be cheaper than Bj's I can't justify the extra travel time and gas cost. However the Plus membership with free shipping on every order made it the way to go. Alas, nevermore.
Pretty much same situation. I have Costco and BJ's closer. I almost never went to SAM'S but did the free shipping with plus. I really liked being able to order the kids cereal and coffee creamer. Over the year it added up but most individual orders weren't over $50. If they would have made free shipping for plus locked behind a $25 minimum I might have done it. I can always find something to bring the order up to $25.

Yep! They took away the 2% back during covid because everyone was ordering online.

Anyone figure out how to use this. I've tried different email addresses, removing credit cards, using initials instead of full names. Still recognizes my info as having an account.

For my area it seems Sam's has better prices than Costco. I also like their Scan & Go. Major time saver. Not sure why Costco doesn't have something similar.
Sams (Walmart Corp) has a patent on it. Costco is waiting to see how this lawsuit with BJ's turns out before they decide on whether to implement it.

Same. Changed member to my husband instead of me, changed credit card, nothing works.
