This is FALSE.

If you redeem a code via iTunes, whether bought directly through iTunes, pulled out of the blu-ray copy slip, or purchased from a digital reseller, it WILL upgrade to 4K.

I have literally built half my iTunes 4K collection doing this.

The only time it WON'T work is if it's redeemed in HD via Movies Anywhere (or through another retailer, like Vudu or Amazon) and it ports over to iTunes. The title will NOT upgrade in that case, even if 4K is available.

However, if you *redeem* within iTunes, you WILL receive a 4K upgrade.

Stop spreading misinformation.

Thats not completely true is it? Codes I get from physical HD discs are upgraded to 4k if I redeem them directly through Apple.

Yes, you are right. If you redeem a HD code or buy HD on iTunes, you will get 4K if that movie ever gets upgraded to 4K. If you redeem a SD code on iTunes or you get it on iTunes via MA, you won't get a 4K upgrade. Someone posted that there are different categories on iTunes: bought/redeemed SD, bought/redeemed HD/4K, have SD rights, have HD rights, or have 4K rights (via transfer to iTunes).

Fyi the Cornetto trilogy ( Shawn of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, World's End ) is $11.xx with the same coupon. Shawn is typically much more expensive on its own.

In case anyone else is wondering, I purchased Brazil (HD) from Gruv via this thread. I was unable to redeem in Apple iTunes or Apple TV apps on my Windows PC. Gruv's instructions state that the code can be redeemed on MA and do not make any claim that the code can be redeemed via Apple.
