Capital One has 14% cash back right now which made it much easier to pull the trigger. Here's hoping the refurbs are actually decent!

accessories4less has the refurbished X3800H regularly for $1,100. They're Denon authorized seller. Recall might actually even do refurbishing repair themselves? That or they get direct units from Denon with full mfg warranty.

I bought a refurb earlier this year from A4L. They actually sent me a brand new one instead.

BTW. Anyone looking into Dirac should take a look at OCA A1 Evo script. Does the same thing better but free.

Friends, we all love these deep discussions and honestly learn a lot from each other.

With all respect, it might be worth shifting our focus back to the other exciting aspects of this deal and these AVRs.

A couple of points for those considering Denon:

1. As our audio experts in this forum often remind us, sound quality doesn't solely depend on the receiver. The rest of your setup—speakers and their placement, amps, equipment, room layout, and acoustics—also play a crucial role. You can get decent output even with a basic setup if you tweak it right.
2. Unless someone is going all in, choosing these receivers based solely on Dirac might not be fair, especially considering the additional $259+ investment on a receiver that could be around $500.
3. For entry-level AVRs (even the X3800H), it's important to remember that Audyssey, the built-in correction tool that comes for free, is fully capable and straightforward for achieving great sound, with some even saying it's as good as Dirac.

Well said and pretty much agree.
Unfortunately that's been the case for a long time and often falls on deaf ears!

Everyone wants a magic pill but there isn't one.

Top 3 that make the biggest difference to SQ.
Speaker quality, proper placements of them and room environment.

You can see how those get addressed in here!

You're much better addressing those 1st before getting some AVR with Dirac!

Are ARC connections still finicky in the 1800/2800/3800 AVRs? My old 2500 ARC connection has been a nightmare w/ my LG OLED. I don't know if it's the LG TV or the Denon receiver that is being wonky since it's my only TV/AVR at home.

I've owned many Denons (970H, 4310, several 4311s and a 3800H). None of them have had HDMI-ARC issues connected to Sony, Pioneer, Samsung LCD TVs or Epson, XGIMI projectors. I did have issues once, but it turned out to be a faulty HDMI cable. Replaced the cable and everything was fine after.

I think it could be the LG C2 OLED in my case that has a bad ARC implementation that doesn't mesh w/ the Denon AVR. I've tried multiple brand new cables, resetting both to factory defaults multiple times, using the right HDMI port for ARC, playing with the settings on both the TV and the AVR and sometimes it will start working until the sound suddenly stops coming out for the ARC connection one day.

TV still going strong so I'm probably stuck with just using my optical connection for the time being... I guess not a big deal but my wife hates it lol.

This is a known issue b/w LG TVs and Denon AVRs:

Firmware updates (for both devices) may fix the issue but I've never pursued it since eARC is more trouble than its worth (for me anyway)!

I am hoping this 14% goes through, but the terms say "Use of other coupons, cash back, or promotional websites after selecting an offer and before making a purchase will invalidate your offer."

Thanks. Any idea if HDMI 2.1 support is better on the X1800H than on the X1700H? I have an issue with my Onkyo NR6050 where HDMI 2.1 sources black out for a couple seconds every minute or so.
It should work for both of them but you can check on the users threads on avs forum.

Costco is great to deal with too if you ever have a problem.

Could use an external streamer, receiver as hub, and use the TV as a dumb monitor with all the eARC and CEC crap turned off that gives so many people so much headache.

First thing I do is turn all that off on all devices but if I get a new android/google TV I may experiment with the TV apps since I use android devices now. LG's operating system just annoys me though and I hear Samsung is even worse. Not worth the ag IMO.

I guess I have a good wife in that she is able to switch inputs and even utilize two zones.

She knows how to switch inputs AND utilize two zones? now you're just showing off.

What you said is what I've done. After wasting countless hours trying to troubleshoot the ARC connection (because technology should just work damn it) I gave up. I use a streaming device and turned off all ARC/CEC and use an optical cable. I simplified my set up to the bare minimum, and I'm happy with it for now. I just wonder from time to time what is it that actually went wrong.

I plug the streaming device into the receiver and use that as the hub. No need for an optical cable back to the receiver that way, other than I use an antenna so I do use optical for that. This has the benefit of getting the best audio formats/quality possible from the streamer (Chromecast w GTV) as optical has some limitations. Also do not need to switch inputs on the TV which is more convenient. Just select "media player" on the receiver remote and it switches to the input it is plugged into/configured for. Either way though has the benefit of just freaking working as you have found.

Yeah she's a good woman. Probable don't deserve her haha.

Received X1800, seems relatively new. However it is way lighter and smaller depth than 75w/channel 5.1 old Onkyo it replaced. Also feel underpowered than Onkyo. Not sure.Otherwise good
