Peacock premium has commercials? What is premium about it then?

They used to have a free tier with ads that didn't have all of the content. The next tier up was premium in that it provided access to additional content but still had ads, and the highest tier was premium plus without ads. They dropped the free tier but kept the names for the two paid tiers.

I've never seen so many people cry about a discount! Don't use the service if you're so butt hurt about who they do or don't give discounts to

It really isn't that. I've paid for a year of this, and my son and I were watching episodes of Farscape on it. Later on, I noticed that Farscape was also on Tubi. We watched an episode on Peacock, and wrote down how many minutes of commercials. Then we watched the next episode on Tubi, and wrote down how many minutes of commercials.

Are you ready for this? The paid Peacock has more than TWICE AS MANY MINUTES of ads per episode as the completely free, ad supported Tubi does.

I found myself scratching my head and thinking, "Why am I paying for this, again - when paying gets me TWICE as many commercials????"

how do you do that ?
Try using AdGuard DNS on your router first to see if it blocks ads on Peacock. It worked for me in the past. Will only take less than 5 mins

Imagine talking to your 90s self and telling them: one day nbc will have all their content on the internet and to watch without being replaced by modern commercials you will need to pay $15 per month for access to one tv channel. lol.

I got in on this deal last August and was in my final month at $1.99, renewal on 9/4 was going to be for $7.99/mo. I verified via SheerID (slight annoyance since my school has not updated their records there, so I had to upload a PDF showing that I had paid for classes for the Fall term) and got a personal one-time use code.

To actually use the code I had to cancel my current plan (no big deal, service would continue thru 9/4) and then turn down a retention offer to extend at $1.99 for 6 months. Once that was done, I went back to my account and signed up using the promo code. Worked flawlessly, and they don't start the "new" service until the old service wraps up, meaning it starts on 9/5 and runs thru 9/4/2025.

BTW - You don't have to be a full-time student to get this deal. I'm enrolled in ONE 3-hour class at my local Community College and that was good enough to pass the SheerID check.

Thanks OP. +1 and repped.

This worked great for Peacock. Not so much for Disney+. The problem, it no longer shows the 4k DV version of movies. What is the best way to turn this off? Just clear out the DNS settings on the router?
I'd rather wait 1:30 and see 4k then just the HD version.

Nowadays if you want a commercial free experience, you have to go to premium Plus.

Umm, NBC Universal values students and first responders above military and teachers? That seems backwards to me.
Those prices don't indicate how NBC Universal values those groups.

Yes, just use any other fast DNS servers (Quad9, CleanBrowsing) and reboot your router.
As a workaround, on my Google TV, I have another Roku stick that is excluded from the Diversion adblock so any streaming service impacted by the adbock will work normally

But not for sporting events. No more commercials than regular TV watching a sporting event.
watching the Olympics was brutal. 5 mins of action, then several ads. way too many ads.

get Peacock Premium through Instacart, but I cannot even pay Peacock more money to upgrade to the ad free version.
It is hilarious to me.
