Deal Details
UPDATE (8/28) - Last day for this deal. The phones listed below still works for trading.

UPDATE (8/25) - No new updates for trade ins. For those picking up their online orders, don't ask what your values are. Just take it and check your online invoice right after taking the phone. If it shows things are zero'd out, you're good and your refund will show up in a few days tops.

UPDATE (8/23) - Thanks to user SmartMice845 for pics of the latest trade in values (basically everything is devalued except the Samsung 23/24 Ultra and iPhone 14 Pro/Max. https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=172512819&postcount=2545

UPDATE (8/22) - From more reporting, it would seem the entire iPhone 13 lineup is devalued (base, pro, pro max). Thus for anyone who still wants in on this deal, only the 14 series and Samsung equivalents are good. Obviously those who already purchased have locked in the rates. Those who ordered online from the start of the promotion for instore pickup seem to be getting the full value without any additional tax.

UPDATE (8/21) - More than one person are reporting devaluation of the iPhone 13 > PXL 9 trade in so careful tonight if you're still planning on doing that. The iPhone 13 Pro Max > PXL 9 Pro XL is still alive.
Devices that were pre-ordered ship to home earlier are being shipped. I actually have a Pixel 9 delivered just now [imgur.com] from an instore pre-order on 8/16!

UPDATE (8/20) - It appears Best Buy have no intentions of fulfilling the "SteveIrwin" iPhone 12 $654 coupon for those who had it zero'd out on the eve of the 18th. Which is crazy they named it that since he's a famous Zoologist who died, so naming it that to say the coupon is dead is crazy. Anyways, if you still have it, I would try to get your trade in back. My store's manager kept my iPhone 12 in a separate location because he saw issues with the coupon. Returned it to me and cancelled the trade in today.

UPDATE (8/19) - looks like quite a few people are reporting their online orders getting cancelled, especially those with multiple orders or trading in an iPhone 12. No one who reported successfully trading in instore has reported cancellations yet. If you have an online order that isn't with an iPhone 12 trade in, perhaps trying going instore to "lock in" your trade and cancel the online one.

UPDATE (8/18) - they have fully devalued the iPhone 12 series. Those who attempted to trade in 8/18 at night were met with a coupon that doesn't work after they traded in their iPhone 12. Will see how Best Buy resolve a traded in phone but the coupon doesn't work. Other models listed below should still have elevated values instore. The updated terms online some people have posted is not the same terms that are present for instore documentation. Best Buy reps have an updated PDF every day and as of last night, still include everything EXCEPT the iPhone 12.

This is a previously posted deal, but trade in values online have been reduced. Higher trade in values still work in-store. Worked for me both yesterday and today.

Steps:

- Have one of the following trade ins. Carrier locked phones are fine as long as they aren't blacklisted. YMMV on exact carrier models and colors matching but I and many others have had no issues trading in a locked Straight Talk iPhone 12 and told them Verizon or Metro and T-Mobile (remove your SIM card when trading in):
Pixel 9:
Galaxy S23 Ultra ($799)
Galaxy S24 Ultra ($799)
Galaxy S24+ ($799)

Pixel 9 Pro:
Galaxy S24 Ultra ($999)
iPhone 14 Pro ($999)
iPhone 14 Pro Max ($999)

Pixel 9 Pro XL:
Galaxy S23 Ultra ($1,099)
Galaxy S24 Ultra ($1,099)
iPhone 14 Pro ($1,099)
iPhone 14 Pro Max ($1,099)
- Take your trade in to the store and ask them you want to pre-order the Pixel with said phone (don't ask for trade in value yet)
- They will ask for your phone's model and capacity and will check the IMEI that's physically on the phone (on the back of Samsung's and on the SIM tray of iPhones with SIM card slots)
- Let them proceed and they'll eventually get to this screen here: https://imgur.com/a/3tKD8kv
- Do not let them skip that screen. They will need to input a coupon code in order for this to work (they have a booklet for the code) -> Others have mentioned the code is just "GOOGLE"
- They'll print out the info, gift card for trade in value and coupon is deducted directly
- After you confirm the promo trade in value, proceed to sign away and give them your phone
- For some states like mine (WA), taxes is paid only on the after coupon price
https://imgur.com/a/naartVF

Additional info:
Phones listed should only have the value for their respective tiers. An iPhone 13 for instance will not have $799 value when trying to get a Pixel 9 Pro or Pro XL.
The $100/$200 gift cards come AFTER you make the purchase so you cannot use it to pay off the taxes. Gift cards are stackable though so if you do more than one trade in, you can use the $100/$200 gift card to pay for taxes on the second or third trade in.
You can use the previous threads to find data points from what others have mentioned are trade in values for different phones. I only listed the ones that corresponds with the models to make them free. Online trade in values are decreased so it's not a good data point for how much your phone would actually cost.

I went to the store Monday evening and traded in my 12 pro for $999 for the 9 pro. I left with the coupon and gift card, $769 and $230. As for the promo pre-order gift card, this will be given if ordered pre release, which means when they have it in stock and not sure on the cut off date.

For my fellow SDers, I read their Google promo printout:
- The 13 and 14 is good for the Pixel 9
- 12 pro 13 pro, and 14 pro is good for the Pixel 9 pro
- 13pm and 14pm is good for the Pixel 9 pro XL.

Minor cracked back took off like 50 from the Google coupon.

The cut off date is 8/28. If you are unable to use your coupon by that date, you lose all value, meaning you lose your trade in because you already left the store and there is no way to get it back. The coupon expires so you lose the 769 credit.

Use it asap.

I'm super confused so I ordered a pixel 9 128gb and I'm trading in my iPhone 12 for $799.00 value. Should I go into the store and trade it in today? Or what's my best option?
I've got an online order and I was thinking about going in to place an order in-store and just cancel my online order to get it out of the way early. But now that I see some cancellations rolling out, there's no way I'm handing over my iPhone until they can hand me the Pixel in return. Ordering in-store will get you a pre-order just like all the online pre-orders already placed. And it can surely be canceled just as easily in their system as the online pre-orders. It would likely just treat it the same way that a refund would be done, meaning the potential loss of the promotional portion of the trade value. And if that were to happen, you may be stuck arguing to try to get something more than the $145 trade value or trying to get them to place another order once more stock becomes available down the road. You can be sure that Google and BB have procedures in place for what happens if some orders aren't fulfilled and when that happens, Google isn't going to pay the promotional part of the trade bonus for canceled sales and so Best Buy isn't just going to eat a $650 loss either. Completing the trade-in is essentially completing a separate agreement and doesn't mean that a pre-order is guaranteed by any means. But it could certainly get messy trying to get it straightened out in that event.

On the bright side, it really doesn't look like a huge amount of orders have been canceled at this point. I'm thinking that they likely just fell short on promised production numbers by 5 or 10 percent, resulting in some canceled orders. Or it could even be from lost / stolen / damaged deliveries. You can bet there are some thieves out there targeting those deliveries and they may have lost a few cases like that along the way and some may have been dropped / tossed / damaged. And a few locations may have lost a few to shady employees grabbing them from an office, etc. Given that the cancellations seemed somewhat sporadic rather than one fell swoop, they might have individual locations each doing their own final inventory reconciliation versus confirmed orders before the drop day. For instance, if they delivered 10 phones to every store and 100 phones to every regional warehouse for processing shipped orders, each may have to do their own count and account for a missing case here or a couple damaged ones there, etc. I'm not sure how much they're breaking up the phones for the orders that get shipped, but I'm guessing that it's done at a somewhat regional basis rather than just a single shipping hub. That would account for a somewhat staggered approach to order cancellations. Oh well …it'll be interesting to see how it goes when drop day comes along.

You will not be able to hand in your iphone now they changed the terms. The only way forward now is waiting and hope that you get an email about shipping or to come in to BB on the 22nd.

Even if you attempt to go into store now to trade in the iphone 12 for the pixel 9, I think they dropped the coupon promo to 0 dollars, meaning you'll only get a $145 BB GC and nothing else. You will not get the other half ($654) that google was suppose to give.

I don't know why you are going on about thief or whatnot. I don't think it will have any impact on deliveries for the initial wave. All these products are tracked, and I don't think there are many BB employees willing to lose there job over a few stolen phones. Not to mention just taking probably even one of these will make it grand thief, which could be a felony in some states. Is it worth it?

This is purely an initial supply issue. In two weeks after launch the iphone 16 comes out and everyone will forget the pixel 9 even launched or existed. A month after that, I bet everyone will be swimming in pixel 9s and retailers begging everyone to buy one, and even drop below MSRP from everyone jumping onto deals like this and flooding the market with even more supply.

I wouldn't try to do it in-store now anyway. I'm not going to do that until I know they actually have a Pixel available to hand over in return. As far as the reason for cancellations, we don't really know what exactly the circumstances are at this point. It could easily be production issues or it could also be from various other things like theft and damage in transit, as those things are all certain to happen to some extent in mass deliveries like this. Or it could be a result of some combination of both. And we don't know if all the cancellations are out of the way at this point or not. If each store / regional hub is doing their own final inventory reconciliation before drop day, that could explain the staggered cancellations and mean that there could potentially be more rolling in tomorrow if they haven't all finalized deliveries yet, regardless of what the root causes were. It's still very early and we don't really know what's going on for sure yet.

Unknown. On my coupon it says in store only, but I have seen another poster said it could be used online. I am guessing you need to type in the code? I had it redeemed in store so you'll have to find out for the rest of us if you try.

If you are wondering why BB is cancelling some orders, anyone's guess is as good as another. At the end of the day I am sure the fine print says they can cancel orders for whatever reason. Maybe they think some of them are bots. Maybe they think some of them are resellers. Maybe they just don't like some of the names. Maye one too many going to the same address or location.

My main hope is that they cancel online orders first (sorry online peeps that got in early), before cancelling orders they already took trade ins for because they would need to potentially untangle that shit-storm since there is some form of value exchanged. For online orders, there's nothing exchanged so far so they can easily wave those off.

At the end of it, there will definitely be enough pixels for anyone that would want one. They could just play it off and delay shipping to some people and eventually ship when there is stock. There is no particular requirement they need to ship all pre orders on the first day after all.

Yeah, I'm really hoping that it's just a small percentage of orders canceled as well. That's kind of what it looks like so far. And I can certainly understand everyone wanting their own orders to be last on the chopping block. I think we're all keeping our fingers crossed on this one. Smilie

Sorry if this has been answered but if I put unlocked Iphone 12 and I got a Metro iphone 12 (all this pre devalue) have they been accepting this or are they rejecting the trade in?

I just purchased a 13 from eBay. But it probably needs to show up by tomorrow, since the Pixel 9 gets released the next day, and I assume there's a good chance this deal is dead at that point. It's got free returns, though.
