At this price, wouldn't this be considered a throw-away, since the replacement battery would probably be more expensive than the UPS itself?

I just read the replacement specs in the manual. This uses a square 12V 5A battery. Typically $20 or less.

In the previous case, the boxes were clearly re-taped up, and the internal battery had an older date.

Quickly checked the instruction manual and this has a pretty standard battery. It's the same one in my vertical unit, only it uses a single one instead of two.

Nah, a replacement battery is $16 on Amazon. Plus it's only this price when it's on sale while that's the everyday price for a battery replacement.
