Much like LoZ, character and weapon progression plays a huge role in order for you to solve puzzles that you come across. You can't complete a certain puzzle or get to a certain area until you have a specific weapon / item.
The one thing I think what most people will dislike is the lack of transparency. What I mean is that the game doesn't tell you ANYTHING. NOTHING. It tosses you into the game and you have to discover everything on your own. You will find that this is done on purpose by the creators. You have to find missing manual pages scattered throughout the game to learn about the lore. I, personally, was kind of turned off by It in the beginning because I just feel like I'm running around doing all these things and still don't know jack about what the hell is going on!
BUT as you gather more pages of the manual throughout the game, you start learning about the lore little by little and I think by the end of the game you really appreciate the ingenuity of the creators trying to approach the game from a different angle.
All in all, It's a solid game, but I wouldn't recommend paying anything more than $15 or even $20. I managed to pick it up during a sale and combined it with a code for $15. The reason is this is a one and done game. Once you beat it, you probably won't ever come back to it again.
In terms of puzzle solving, this game is up there with LoZ.
In terms of difficulty, it blows LoZ out of the water. Enemies in this game are actually aggressive.

I do intend to go back and finish it, but I opened up a bunch of new paths I have no idea how to progress on and I got overwhelmed while other new shiny games beckon. However, it's a game that feels worth finishing so far.
Better than most recent Zelda games.
That said, I think BOTW and TOTK are overrated. Not that they're bad games, but they're not even close to the level of games like A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, etc... If I were to rank all the LoZ games, they might make my top 10.
Also, it's a nice looking game, but not graphically demanding at all. Should run great on the switch. I can't say I would have paid $30 for it before I played, but now on the other side it's completely worth it. Just be careful looking up any help or guides since it could spoil the journey. A lot of the "secrets" are available from the get go, but you only learn about them later in the game through the gameplay and puzzle solving.
Says this takes about 12-20 hours to beat. Seems kinda low for $30 for me honestly.

Looks like the same contents minus the hard cover sleeve/box for the game container. I could just pick this up and keep the Fangamer deluxe edition sealed. I say this is a good deal just because it contains a lot of the Deluxe edition. Game companies no longer want to print manuals nor include maps and posters. This game is a homage to Zelda when that game released on the NES with a map, manual and tips to help you find things along the way. This game is meant to be played like the old style games where you find things on your own. It's not for everyone who wants to spend that kind of time asking for your patience, but I do appreciate that they still release some games in that old style. I used to deal with the difficulty of Zelda II and Ninja Gaiden 1 on NES. This game shouldn't be "want to break your controller" difficult like those games. A lot of modern games today have a lot of "hold your hand" kind of design because everyone has short attention spans.

Maybe instead of asking why someone would get this instead of Zelda, you should be asking why someone who likes Zelda games wouldn't get this game.
Edit: sorry, replied to the wrong comment. I'm leaving it.

edit: actually there are now 5 mainline Zelda games on the Switch with the release of Echoes of Wisdom next month. As Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom went in a new direction for the franchise, I can understand how someone who wants a more traditional Zelda formula in a wholly original game might be left wanting though. Perhaps Echoes of Wisdom will scratch that itch.
