Bought a 55 in QM7 today. Quick set up. All consoles calibrated. Picture and sound is great. For $497 you can't beat it.

QM8 is glossy while QM7 is semi glossy. QM8 has a reflection score of 9.0 and the QM7 has 7.3 (higher than the Q7's 7.1). Yes it has a lower score, but it seems to be due to the semi gloss treatment. It has the same reflection handling as the QM8 but light sources directly behind the tv have an aura instead of a defined dimmed shape. Both tvs have very high brightness so I doubt ppl will have issues, just try not to have sun blasting through a window behind you, light sources to the side are not a problem per RTINGS
Do ypu have early acces on rting? What is the mixed score?

They just released it. Mixed usage: QM7 (8.1). vs Q7 (7.9). Dimming zones: QM7 65" (1,248) vs Q7 65" (160) vs QM8 65" 2023 (1,080). Same blooming performance (7.5). Hisense U7N has a (7.0) on blooming but comparing pictures, I can visually see both TCL's are better. My previous experience with LED's led me to believe blooming performance is very important so as to not blast the screen with a white aura around text when using subtitles. HDR Brightness: QM7 has a anywhere from 5x the brightness at 2%, 2x brightness at 10%, 1.5x at 25%, and 50% upwards the same brightness values. SDR brightness same ratios. Viewing angle: QM7 (6.0) vs Q7 (5.3). Better reflection handling than Q7 but only by having less square inches of an 'aura' around bright objects; reflection of bright room off picture remains the same, with the QM8 being darker (reflecting less of the room)

4:4:4 at 120hz is supported on QM7, Q7 did NOT support this. 4:4:4 + 120hz is supported but not with game mode on. It has to be in PC mode. However, 4K at 120hz has 6.0ms vs Q7 at 6.2ms input lag.

55''.

This size is the standard for almost any hotel room nowadays.

See above. Can you please use the rtings 4:4:4 chroma test to check if this TV supports 120hz + game mode at 4:4:4 chroma at the same time? That was my hangup on the previous model, the Q7.
See above. Slickdeals changed the visual layout on me and I don't know how to manually edit and combine my replies anymore.

picked this up last time it was on sale. Pretty satisfied with the picture quality. I also have a LG G3 OLED, and I would say this panel is brighter during the daytime especially with dolby vision content.

I watch mostly Netflix, YT and streamed the Olympics with it, and can't say the LG is really better aside from viewing angles.
Lol. That is a wild statement. The G3 is so much better.

How does this compare to the TCL 55R646?

I would assume brightness is mostly what he is basing his opinion on between the two

TCL - 75" Class QM8 Q-Class Mini-LED QLED 4K HDR Smart TV with Google TV (2023) - Open Box

Great tip. A $100 off $1000 coupon populated in my cart while I thought about buying, bringing it below $600 (I guess it was going off the pre open-box discount price). Does anyone have experience with the Geek Squad extended warranty? Seems like 5 yrs might be worth the $129 asking price on an open box item

You either need to get your eyes checked or you're just flat out lying. If you truly can't tell the significant differences in these 2 models, you shouldn't have bought a G3 to begin with 🤔 Seriously, very few models can compare even somewhat favorably to the G3 and those that do have a pricetag to match.

Calibration Settings from Rtings

Quick: Movie (most color accurate), Vivid but less accurate.

Expert SDR: Brightness - 23 (adjusted to viewing conditions though). Contrast - 100. Black Level - 50. Gamma - 2.2. Local Contrast (local dimming) - High. Color Saturation - 50. Tint - 50. Color Temperature - Warm (can be adjusted per preference). Clarity<Sharpness - 0 (20 for upscaling). Disable most image processing (but still personal preference): Dynamic Contrast, Black Stretch, Dynamic Brightness, Micro Contrast, and Clarity<Noise Reduction.

Expert HDR: Brightess (autos to 100 when detecting HDR. All picture settings left as defaults in HDR. Color Space - Auto. For HDR to work from external devices, set HDMI Mode to Auto or HDMI 2.1. White point (should not be copied, even the same units vary, only try out to test accuracy). 2 Points: 2 Points (On). R-Gain (-13), G-Gain (0), B-Gain (-7), R-Offset (3), G-Offset (2), B-Offset (-2)

Motion: Motion<Advanced Settings. Motion Clarity, Blur Reduction and Judder Reduction adjusted per user until soap opera effect removed/turned on. Clear LED Motion controls backlight strobing/black frame insertion. Turning it on reduces appearance of blur but decreases peak brightness of the TV. QM7 auto removes 24p judder, no additional settings required.

4:4:4/120hz and game mode is not possible simultaneously. Has to be 4:4:4/120hz and PC mode, apparently still has low input lag though so game mode not necessary?

How do these TCLs and Chinese tvs hold up in general? Ended up getting a Samsung 70in from a previous deal cheaper than this but is the quality/reliability good on TCLs?

To bring in some statistics based on RTINGS latest review of the QM7, the QM7 is brighter at ~2x, but the reflection handling on the G3 is insanely way better. Brightensss offsets bad reflection handling but if you have incredible reflection handling, a retina destroying brightness isn't 100% required. G3 has 0.3% calculated reflections while the QM7 has 4.9% I'm comparing the 2 pictures they took with indirect room brightness on the screens, and the G3 looks 2x darker than the QM7 (less reflections)

Comparing both, I'd say the extra cost is about what you would expect in terms of improvements over the R646. Brightness better on QM7 anywhere from from 1.25-1.5x on normal viewing. The R646 has slightly better reflection handling reducing reflections a tad. QM7 has slightly better off viewing angle.
