Bestbuy also has the open box fair condition of the Asus rog ally Extreme 1 for $325. I picked up one and it was in like new condition. Only thing it has was finger prints on the screen which I wiped off easily.

Wondering if I should bite now or wait until Black Friday or for the inevitable release of Legion Go 2?

That expired today. Now the cheapest open-box one is $424.

I'd say wait a few years until these things have their issues sorted. It won't be long before the Snapdragon X cpus will be in these and the Windows software will be sorted out. Long battery life without lots of heat seem like what these devices really need.

Ordered the 512GB version (new) from Amazon (actual Amazon, not a 3rd Party) last week when price was at $540, and they sent me a refurbished laptop.

Not sure why the td. This seemed like a legitimate deal to me. The lowest I have ever seen for the 1tb.

Qualcomm needs to sort out its driver and compatibility issues before that happens. Games are probably the worst possible use case for their chips right now as many refuse to run or crash and the ones that do run tend to run very poorly. The huge back catalogue of games that will never, ever be ported to ARM is another issue. Also don't assume that Qualcomm has a big intrinsic energy efficiency advantage. That conversation surrounding ARM has always come from a false premise that ISA determines efficiency and not microarchitecture, process node, and all the other myriad aspects of design such as hardware / software integration. Intel's upcoming Lunar Lake, destined for handheld devices, will close the efficiency gap a lot.

Top end handhelds will continue to run x86 for many years. I bet we will see some cheaper devices running ARM though. Ayn Odin experimented with Windows already.

This isn't the norm for everyone.

Wait a few years? For disposable technology. You would never buy anything if a few years is how long you wait for anything.

If you want to wait at least 2 years for the go 2.
I would get it and use it until the next gen with a better gpu comes out.
I have the steamdeck and love it, but this one got my eye when i tried it.

FYI. When you pickup the order you can inspect the ally and if you find issues with it you can have them show you what other open box ones to pick one you like. woot
