Oh good, I thought it was just happening to me. I made a list called "Google farkups" in regards to its attempt at speech to text AI, here we go:

#1
• TV is streaming a soccer game
• me to speaker in bathroom: "hey google, can I (loses train of thought)...cancel"
• GA: "okay, stopping living room TV"
• me to speaker in bathroom: "hey google, resume living room TV"
• "nothing's playing right now"

#2
• on hub in kitchen, streaming BBC radio station, clicks on "home group" button to play on all speakers
• it starts playing on the other speakers for a second and then pauses forcing me to have to click play (and it's not a buffering issue, I've patiently waited to test this out)

#3
• me to any speaker: "hey google, play SONG NAME on home group"
• GA: "I'm sorry, I can't find a home group (yet I can click on it on my nest hub screen just fine and it'll play to the home group)"

#4
• me to any speaker: "hey google, play SONG NAME"
• *song starts playing*
• hey google, play on my home group
• GA: "I'm sorry, something went wrong"

#5
• "hey google, turn off my living room light"
• GA: "I'm sorry, it looks like that device isn't available right now"
• I immediately say the same thing again and it turns off

#6
• "hey google, please play (current song) on home group"
• "Sorry, I can't find a home group. Please make sure that device is turned on and connected to the internet."

#7
• "hey google, set living room light to 100%"
• sets it to last setting which was 30%
• one time I said 100% again and it still set it at the last 30% setting, then on the third time it changed it (this has happened twice now)

So yeah, I'm really not a huge advocate anymore, I feel like in the last year or two shit has been going backwards with their AI shit.

I have a pair of these. When they work, they're great. The problem is, they don't always work properly. Really just another product in the Google abandonment graveyard.

$10 less per speaker than I paid in 2021. But with how unreliable and buggy these products have become, there is no way I'm giving google more of my hard earned money.

Sheesh a lot of hate. I own 4 of these and love them - I just don't expect them to do much more than play Spotify or control my KASA devices, so maybe that's why.

They're punching WAY above their weight in stereo mode as far as sound quality goes.

Mostly because they made promises regarding grouping speakers together and have totally made a cluster of it. This problem is being tracked below that they recently caused.

I mean, seriously, how is it that in this day and age Google can f-up something like audio groups? Do they not have QA labs?!? I'm done buying into Google's ecosystem.

I bought a pair of these and I was really disappointed in the sound quality. Even though everyone said how great they are, turns out that's relative to older Google Home speakers, not to actually decent speakers. But they're smart speakers, from Google -- surely we can EQ them and make them sound a bit better?? Nope. You can adjust the base and treble a bit.

Unless you actually want the Google Assistant support, get an Anker Soundcore speaker on sale with the graphic EQ in the app. Even if you want a Google Home, you can save money and buy a mini, then buy decent speakers for music separately.

I do have issues with Google Home and my lights occasionally, but it's still a good price and a pretty good product.

Not sure what most expect. I have the Google OG hub (nest hub) and works fine for all my basics.. smart home, music, video... Unless the speaker is much worse, but even my Max Speaker long abandoned by Google works fine.

I do wonder if most are just repeating what's in popular Reddit groups of years past.

To be clear, I don't own these but can't imagine them being much different to Hub or Max

Like other people said it's hit and miss. I have 2 smart displays, 2 nest minis 2 nest speakers. You can't do normal group for all of them anymore. Even the group for both nest speakers is hit an miss nowadays. I started using this 5 years ago. I think that is going backwards. I was expecting 5 years later this to be a beast AI speakers. This can barley understand what I really want 50% if the time.

Like speakers I really like it. I am not expecting Bose quality for 50$. Probably for 25$ each I will grab 2 more but 50 no. With all of those bugs. Also this is old product. Unsure about future support.

Is this better than the amazon echo 4th gen in sound quality?

Got 4 of these the last time they were at this price; they're fine. Agree with all the comments made here about unreliable behavior; we depend on them in my home, but I kind of wish we didn't because they're so janky half the time. If there was a better voice activated speaker out there that didn't require me to switch everything to some other ecosystem/platform, I'd consider it in a heartbeat.

It's funny because I have one of those best buy brand Google smart speakers. It even had the built in backup battery. Got them for $25 about 6 years ago .. they still work better than any of my branded google speakers. It's pretty insane
I have that one too. And the non battery version.

I have 5 of the hub max devices and to of the regular ones. Sound quality isn't great on any of them. Google really needs to release an update to the Max.

I have 7 Google speakers from different eras including these. The Sonos case hobbled the product and seriously impacted consumer uptake. By the time the case was over, most features were restored, but Google's corporate ADD meant that their attention had more from Assistant to AI, so there won't be any new features until their attention comes back around again. Does that mean they'll revitalize this product, who knows.

No. Not even close. The echo 4 blows all of the Google speakers out of the water. Even the nest hum max, the $229 10" device.
Have you tried the google home speakers made by Harman Kardon - Citation 300 and 500? These are the best sounding google or echo speakers I've ever heard. In a stereo pairing they are truly impressive.

I have not. I was just talking about the Google speakers on this thread, and the ones made by Google.
