Just received mine (took 2 weeks). The 2 big drawbacks: loud and hot

I installed the new BIOS (1.18) that I believe has the microcode fix. Intel has not admitted the HX chips have the bug, but they do. After BIOS update, CPU used as much as 1.44V while gaming and CPU reached 100 celsius and throttled. Not good.

If I disable turboboost, the laptop quiets down and runs cooler, but game performance suffers. I mainly play Fortnite, which is not that demanding, so the loss is not great.

I bought this to replace a G7 which I have had for 6 years. I'm pleased with the G16 except for the fan noise and throttling issue. The Cherry keyboard is fantastic. Lack of a keypad not an issue for me. The screen is bright and beautiful. The build quality seems very solid just like the G7.

I'm vaquely thinking of returning this because of the heat/throttling issues. I will test it out more in the next couple weeks.

It is not Dell's fault. But I will avoid any computers with i7&i9 13th, 14th generations. As others said, the intel 'bug' is a serious issue. It seems that the issue triggers w/ heating, which will be an issue with a gaming machine, probably worse with a laptop. Until they find a permanent fix, I am holding off.

I strongly recommend checking youtube for Gamer's Nexus, Level 1 Techs, etc coverage of intel 13th and 14th gen issues before even thinking of buying one of these. There is very thorough documentation of just how bad the problems are with these CPUs

Intel stated the issue does not affect laptops, but the article points out the "HX" series may use a desktop cpu.... https://videocardz.com/newz/intel...ity-issues

From what I understand about Chinese branded network equipment, phone and software, I wouldn't buy any of them. Lenovo is a Chinese brand so I will pass at any price point.

I own G15, the keyboard AWSD and other keys worn out in first year that paint is completely chipped to clear plastic, Dell won't warranty the keyboard. In comparison, my work Lenovo laptop keys still look brand new after 5 years daily heavy typing, zero sign of worn. So keyboard can be made not chipping paint, just Dell chooses the cheapest ones.

Also, it may be worth the wait for Core Ultra 200 series as 13xxxx seems to end here, Intel is resetting series to 200.

200 series is showing to be much faster than both13xxx series and latest AMD offering.

Intel 13th gen 😬 I was just talking to a friend who has a similar cpu and his laptop was experiencing some of the fiasco issues that's plaguing these chips 😥 I had him do the microcode update but I think it's too late. And the problem with the laptop chips is there is no way to fix them once they degrade. It's permanent and I doubt the laptop manufacturer will stand behind it because it would require a motherboard change.
Intel was wrong. They learned about oxidation back in 2022, yet did nothing. Now 13th/14th gen line impacted. Horrible leadership. Company deserves to circle the drain.

Intel still using an old 10nm process, aren't they? Of course those chips will be inferior to competitors using 3-4 nm chips.

don't know why it's heavier than other laptops with similar configurations. And it does not have a number pad.
Maybe it fell out of a coconut tree?

Tech yes city did a video on the microcode update and it's not looking promising. In some ways the microcode update is worse 😱

After seeing the fiasco with the 13/14th gen degradation, I'm not sure I would trust the next generation. How do we know that those chips also don't degrade as well? Its made on the same process as 13/14th gen 10nm

Intel has been famously back tracking and changing its tune weekly. There have already been reports of companies reporting what CPUs experiencing degradation INCLUDING laptop chips. Whether Intel admits it or not it's already effecting mobile chips too

The problem isn't so much the chips getting too hot. Its experiencing too much voltage. And it actually happens more often on random tasks or under idle than under load because under load naturally the voltage drops but it's those random spikes above 1.5v is what was killing these CPUs. Supposedly the Intel microcode update fixes this but tech yes city did a video and he was reporting even higher voltage spikes on the microcode update from Intel 😱

Got the laptop in hand today. I exepceted that the laptop would be somewhat heavy but wasn't really prepared for the size and weight of the power adapter. It's massive compared to any of my preivous laptops and almost as heavy as the laptop itself. I can't imagine carrying both around too often.

6+ lbs? thats a big nope for me.

Once youve had a light gaming laptop, can't go back to anything like this.
