imo, the quality of these have gone down in recent years.

Can't say anything about the new ones, but the original Bionic is the epitome of TNF quality (or what used to be). As far as I can remember, those never went on sale, especially the black and neutral colors one.
I have one that is about 15 years old, and has been my primary daily driver in the cold for the last 15 years. Has faded a little, but still in decent shape.

Does the cuff have a way to tighten it a little? Like a velcro strap?

Same. I sent mine in for repairs and tnf sent me an email stating it was unrepairable. I visited the nearest store to check out the latest apex bionic and it was just trash. Small was fine in length but right up at shoulders. The medium was fine at the shoulders but long at the torso and sleeves. Material felt rougher. Its cut very boxy. No Velcro straps at the sleeves.

I can't speak for the one(s) you purchased 15 years ago but the ones I got within the last decade definitely went on sale and the zippers tend to come out more than I'd like. I'm in the market for another Bionic (because of aforementioned zipper issues) but I was surprised at the price. Is this too good to be true or is there a better quality light jacket from TNF that I'm not aware of. Or is there a comparable brand? TIA.

I bought 3 of the Bionic Apex 3 heather gray color from REI last month for $80 each. No elastic cuff, no velcro closure for sleeve, no adjustable waist for the cold. Just straight fabric. Are they cutting cost? All 3 pockets on the outside do have zippers. The material is a little stiff but that's for waterproofing. I like the subtle black NF logo which is why I was willing to try them. Even though So Cal winter are mild, I am going to return them. Previous Bionic Apex were better
