My father in law is looking to get a new desktop. He doesn't play games but does have to wrangle some giant excel files along with other large files. Would this be a good fit or does anyone have a recommendation for something in a similar price bracket? My gut instinct is that he should be getting 32GB+ RAM and 1TB+ SSD but I've been out of the PC buying world for a long time!

This is roughly equivalent to i5-14400F / RTX 4060. It's a good value, but that upcoming Costco deal has better RAM and SSD.

On a side note, both the CPU and the GPU being numbered 7600 is so confusing... Scratchhead

That Costco system linked above is a good deal.

If he does not play games then he most likely won't need a graphics card. The graphics card is not necessary for things like Excel.

Example of a system w/o graphics for $600 :
https://www.costco.com/acer-aspir...47987.html

Or shop aroun for something with 32GB + 1TB drive. Or you can buy a system with 16GB and then upgrade the memory to 32GB for fairly cheap. 32GB of DDR5 is around $75-100 Upgrading memory is actually quite easy. The PC makers really jack up the prices on systems with larger amounts of RAM.

Don't waste your money on any computer system with a graphics card. It is the bulk of the cost in these systems.

No, half the price of this system is from the gpu which excel won't benefit from. RAM and storage are cheap right now. You need I be looking at the CPU.
