Let be clear on their unlocking policy. There is 365 days waiting time, and also the phone should have service for 180 days within 365 days. This is per my recent conversation with their customer service agent.
Please remember that their unlock policy criteria does not specify automatic unlock regardless of the service time.

You're missing the point here. 99% of us only want to pay $125 1x to get the phone. You want to pay $70 a month for 2 years. Not us😀

No you can stop paying, or downgrade.
Oh wow, thank you! It seems like they would take a loss from this, right? Either way works for me!

Thanks for sharing. Any idea when this was changed? I have an iPhone 12 from them that I purchased in March this year. It was supposed to get unlocked in September.

This would have been good a week ago for the pixel trade in, but already paid $50 more.

Anyone know if Metro would do a price adjustment on these if we ordered them last week?

It was changed in May.
If you purchased a phone before the policy change, it should still unlock. Source: I got an A54 for my father-in-law for christmas and it was unlocked the last time I checked it, we're moving him over to Mint next week.

I do see this in the footnotes "You'll need email & ID (to verify your name & address) to sign up. Heads up—if you want to move to a less expensive rate plan during the next 6 months after getting this deal, you'll need to pay $50 to change plans. An activation charge of $25 may apply in-store. You can get deals on up to 4 lines. This is a limited-time offer and, like everything else in this crazy world, is subject to change."

So does that mean we need to pay a fee to cancel the Metro Flex Up plan?

Does anybody know how to unlock this phone? I bought it around 7 months ago and I can't find any info anywhere as to how to reliably unlock it

Believe iphones unlock automatically after 6 months (if purchased before Metro changed their policy in May). Did you put another SIM in it and phone wouldn't activate?

I suppose, but who told them to raise plan prices so much. $70 for prepaid is insane.

If this is true: "the phone should have service for 180 days within 365 days", then no more deals from "Metro by T-mobile", sad!

Anyone replied to you yet, or maybe I missed scrolling up and down.
I am on tmobile and I wanted to try iphone for a while, didn't want to spend a lot or deal with refurbs at $300+, can I use this with T-Mo SIM?

There is no such verbiage about service time in Metro's published unlock policy [metrobyt-mobile.com]:
Unlock eligibility requirements

We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:
  • The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
  • The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
  • Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation
However, since it has been only a little over three months since the unlock policy changed to 365 days after activation, no one will really no for sure until next May.
