Isnt this almost a 4 year old phone now? The iPhone 16 is getting released next month, is it not?

This will have only a year more of updates and support, so probably not worth it unless for use as a trade in.
And? Do you think the Iphone 16, or other recent models are also to be had for $125?? There are a lot of people out there using phones even older than the iphone 12 and for them this is still an upgrade, regardless of how much better you can +$$$ up for. Besides which many (most?) people interested in this deal aren't even planning on keeping the 12, but sell it or use as trade fodder.

I don't understand why people are thinking this is a good deal. You are locking yourself into a $70/month plan for a year before it unlocks...for a 4 year old phone. $70 x 12 = $840 for the plans + $50 for the phone.
There's no contract, so after one month ($125 = $75 (1 month)+ $50 (phone)) just don't pay for more. Can trade in the iphone on another deal... or sell it to someone willing to using Metro... or store it and wait 365 days and see if it auto-unlocks*.

So you're just ignoring the part about if you need a cheaper plan in the next six months you pay a penalty?
Not paying for additional months is NOT the same as downgrading and getting a cheaper plan. Just because they want to penalize you for downgrading doesn't mean you can't just stop using the service to avoid it altogether. So penalty only applies if you want to keep using Metro service.

*Current details state 365days before unlock and no minimum usage (after the first month.) Some reports (details from reps) mention a minimum 180 days of service though (but not all). So before 365 days since the most recent changes is up and new purchases start becoming eligible for unlock, it's hard to be sure if they really need 180 days of service or not.

Ok. I'm just worried about where it says I can't go to a lower plan in the first six months.

Looks like we need to unlock the google voice number to port out. Below are the instructions from the website https://support.google.com/voice/...5667?hl=en

To port your number out of Google Voice, first you need to unlock the number. Then, let your carrier know you want to port a number to their service. Work with them until the porting process is complete.

When you unlock your Google Voice number, it costs $3 USD. But if your number was originally ported in from another carrier, there's no charge

On your computer, open Google Voice.
At the top right, click Settings and then Settings.
Go to the "Account" section.
Under the Google Voice number you wish to port out, click Unlock.
Complete the payment with your Google Account.
If successful, at the bottom left, it displays "Number unlocked."
You need do this before trying to port the google voice number

That's an option. If you want to use the phone number. Sure. The assumption is that most people will unlock Google voice with $3 bucks and never look back at that number. Yes. Personally I would ignore that part. Just read the contract. It's prepaid and you don't have responsibility for any payment after.
