Let be clear on their unlocking policy. There is 365 days waiting time, and also the phone should have service for 180 days within 365 days. This is per my recent conversation with their customer service agent.
Please remember that their unlock policy criteria does not specify automatic unlock regardless of the service time.

You're missing the point here. 99% of us only want to pay $125 1x to get the phone. You want to pay $70 a month for 2 years. Not us😀

Could you use it immediately or did you have to wait for the GV port?
You can use the phone (do the online activation from the order tracking page once its shipped) -- data will work and you can probably call/text from the phone but your incoming calls/texts will still go to GV until the port is done (Metro system texts will come to the phone)

Metro takes 1mo to fully port a GV number by default since its landline/VoIP but you can call their port dept @ 800-518-7519 a few days to a week after activation to speed things up -- if you find a rep who knows what they're doing then they can complete the port sooner otherwise most reps will tell you to just wait until its done (which will be 1mo from activation)

Thanks, yeah I activated on the tracking page. Phone arrives Tuesday. But 1 month to complete? Is that an anomaly or a frequent occurrence with Metro?

With pixel 9 no longer having high trade in value for IP12, is it still worth getting for someone who never wants to use Metro?

Normal for GV to Metro ports -- you can check the previous Metro threads

I tried calling once in the past but the rep didn't know what to do and told me to just wait for it to finish -- I didn't care about the number or service so I didn't bother calling again (wanted the phone for trade in)

Your transfer can not be completed at this time. Should I cancel the transfer and go ahead with the order or keep trying untill the transfer goes through?
EDIT: Nevermind, got the answer. Transfer must get through in order for deal to work. Will keep trying.

Anyone know?
you need the 1st phone to arrive, so you can receive text to log on to your account and add a line ($35) and device. But if you start a new plan ($75), then you don't need to wait for the phone to arrive.

Can I just bring this phone straight out of the box to trade in for the Pixel 9 or do i have to activate the iphone 12 for any reason with the sim card and port the number? I rather keep my GV number, but understand if its not possible Thank you for anyone who knows in advance.
the porting from GV to Metro is always having issue. After activating, the phone will have your GV number when calling out, but cannot receive phone calls or text. You have to call Metro to complete the transferring. So technically, you can activate the iPhone 12, and let the plan expire after 30 days. It won't affect your GV number.

Should I order this for a future trade-in deal?
I ordered about 8 iPhone 12 in previous Metro deal in March, and I traded in all them for all kinds of deals the past half an year.
For this price, there's nothing to lose. You can trade them in at best buy for gift card more than what you paid.

What is the best way to get another number to port in? I do not want to port my existing GV number and I can't get another GV number because I don't have any other phone number to associate with

Hehe.i activated both phones from the tracking page as well and I got an email saying the phone is activated. ETA Monday. Using a Google Voice for port in. Don't think I will wait for 1 month cuz my Pixels from Best But are waiting for papa....

I think I'll make an online account etc just to finish the process.

If just trading the phone, you think it's better to make an online account or once the phone arrives just trade in and forget everything and say Bye-bye Metro?

So if you don't make an account etc, your GV number doesn't get ported to Metro?

They may the flag you in the future?

GV number port will eventually finish in 30 days even if your service expires and then your GV number will be gone from your Google account -- you won't get to keep the GV number

You alrdy have an online account (phone number + 8 digit account pin you created when ordering) but you'll need the phone in hand for SMS verification code to access the account each time

I would setup the phone since it'll automatically see the pending Metro eSIM on startup then you can try moving the eSIM to another compatible phone if you want to access your online account in the future -- otherwise just delete the eSIM and factory reset the phone (do a basic setup using wifi without logging in to your Apple account) before trading it in

I would try to move it to another phone just in case you want to add more lines or port out the number for another carrier promo
