If you only need the tool you can "hack" with the free battery option and get for $110

Not seeing that option, they have it in a bundle so you can't cancel one or the other.

It's $199 if you add tool-only and free battery separately: $111 for the tool and $88 for the battery.

You'd be better off with a hatchet or a sharp shovel. The ground is going to bend your saw blade otherwise.

Yes. I did this after removing a tree. You'll go thru a lot of blades though if you aren't just doing a couple cuts, largely due to the dirt that is inevitable....so you'll want a pile of cheap pruning blades instead of wasting good ones.

I've done exactly that. Blades don't last too long but works well. Just clear away dirt from the blade path and you're good

You can't cancel it, you have to either return it or send the battery to a different store for pickup

My experience is the exact opposite. A "sharp shovel" isn't going to do anything to large roots (and it certainly won't stay "sharp" for long), and using a hatchet is exhausting. There is no easy way to get large roots out, but my experience is that using a Sawzall is the best approach.

Although using a Sawzall with a 12" blade takes a fair bit of time, and you will go through quite a few blades with a large tree, it definitely gets the job done. A lot of dirt on the blade will blunt it fairly quickly, so hosing the dirt off the roots once in a while helps with that. I don't understand what you mean by "The ground is going to bend your saw blade". If your saw blade is in the ground you're doing it wrong. Use a pickaxe to clear away dirt around the root before sawing.

The 5.0 ah battery doesn't last too long when cutting tree roots, but by the time it dies you're probably ready for a break anyway.

Milwaukee blades definitely last longer than the cheap ones from Amazon when cutting tree roots with a Sawzall, though even very blunt blades work fine on smallish tree roots. I have never evaluated whether using cheap blades on tree roots works out cheaper overall.

And as for the Sawzall in the OP? It's an absolute beast, and tolerates abuse with complete indifference.

Yep this works. $110.62 for the sawzall only using your suggestion. Thanks!
