this sale extension seems like an evil ploy to get people back into their store with the hopes that they buy something else not on sale instead of coming home empty handed

I can understand the anger, and loss of faith, but when it needed to, HF did the right thing, recalled them on a large scale and gave owners credit for those purchases. And like an IKEA, with their recalls, at least they're big enough for people to actually have gotten the news, and have an easy, convenient way to obtain relief.
Problem is, it's hard to buy unquestionable stuff, at least at a reasonable price.
Even the more expensive, much-lauded brands, like ESCO, have some horrible welds on their stands.
My understanding is the recall was not for them failing but if you kicked the handle there was a possibility it would drop. Not sure how many actual problems there were. The new ones have a pin that makes that failure impossible.
The market is flooded with jacks, and jack stands that probably come out of a handful, if that, of factories in China, with the main difference being branding, and appearance. The $20-30 HD Husky, and Pro-Lift stands that are also popular deals here aren't necessarily any better.

2) Every tire place I've ever been to uses Daytona jacks (not the stands) day in and day out, so I'm willing to give them a pass on the jack stands. Just because one item is a dud doesn't mean the entire store immediately becomes a wasteland.
Their gloves, tarps, ratchet straps, bungies, etc are all great and cheap products.
The Icon beam style torque wrench is probably one of the best ones you can buy for under $200.
HF has a plethora of great (and cheap) things. The worst thing about them is that you can't leave without spending at least $50 every time, even with coupons. All of a sudden, I find myself absolutely needing a set of crowfoot wrenches, tap and die set, extraction bits, or some other random specialty tool that catches my eye.
I just got a Daytona jack finally for $130 a couple of months ago during a sale (it's on sale again right now apparently), which worked great I love mine.
A lot of my other stuff is Craftsman, some made in USA from Sears when they were doing a bunch of coupons, but have you seen the prices Lowes is charging on the Craftsman stuff now? It's absurd.
Still a great place to get tools without having to spend a ton. Just not as cheap as before, but those days are gone as are the 99 cent meat burritos at Taco Bell and the $1 Mcdouble. What can you do.
