Frypans are great in cast iron.

Saucepans, not so much. A lot of the things you put in saucepans (like tomato sauce) can degrade the seasoning and promote rust. That shot of simmering tomato salsa isn't a great idea.

Also, the nonstick properties aren't as important in a saucepan as a frypan (though nonstick is still useful).

yeah but like have you personally had these issues with your seasoning degrading or the pan rusting when using tomato sauces?

I haven't - I don't use a lot of tomato or acid in my iron pans.

The little I do use is like tossing a few cherry tomatoes in a quick stir fry. Hasn't been an issue.

It's not a big deal with well established pans with years of seasoning done.
It will absolutely happen to a new pan with "weak" seasoning.
Garlic is worse, my lodge melting pot (which only sees butter) had garlic butter in it one time. Clear ring where the garlic was.

Unfortunately, I never get years of seasoning. Once every couple years, I'll accidentally leave the burner on, burn off my seasoning, and have to reseason it.
