The app is essential if you have a local music library. If you are not streaming local music and using a soundbar for TV you don't really need the app. However the app is probably used by 70% of its users for local music streaming and the main reason many purchased the Sonos ecosystem. Many Apple users are using a $3.00 third party app called SonoPhone for iOS only which has allowed local library streaming. Android users do not have that option. There is a real fear that Sonos may not survive this app debacle as their stock and sales are significantly down. They may be purchased by another tech company. It's unknown at this point which is why I advise people to wait to see what happens before investing in Sonos at the moment.
Be sure to research all the issues Sonos has had with their app before you buy into their platform. Now that their stock has tanked, it will be interesting to see how the company responds.
This. I was coming here to basically say the same thing. I've loved my Sonos for years until this App debacle. It really does make what used to be a great system/experience absolutely frustrating now. It is sometimes almost unusable.

I've started researching alternatives and will probably give it through the end of the year at best.

I have Sonos in 9 living spaces in my house…

Really love mine as rear speakers and the occasional stereo setup. I'm sure the 300s would sound much better, but for the size, the 100s have been fantastic.

These are kind of overkill for surround speakers. The One would be better suited and half the price. Eras are great music speakers.

Era 100s are more than enough. The 300s are def better, but unless you have a massive open living room where the couch is in the center and not against the wall then the 100s are the move

Like I said, I don't use them purely as surround speakers. But my ex had the Ones and I wasn't overly impressed with sound quality in comparison. The 100s just have more depth and clarity to my ears. Definitely could be a good move if you want to save some money, though!

Oh yeah, that would be an awesome rig. The Beam would connect to your tv setup, and cut out the need for Bluetooth. But like previous posters mentioned this item may be overkill - but I would say not really at this price.

The Ones were superb as surround speakers but these will run circles around them for music streaming etc.

If you can swing it and have space, I'd add a set of One SL for rears.

My bedroom setup is a Frame TV paired with a Sonos Arc, Sub and One's. It sounds fantastic.

I originally didn't have the rears, they really added a lot to the mix.
