The app is essential if you have a local music library. If you are not streaming local music and using a soundbar for TV you don't really need the app. However the app is probably used by 70% of its users for local music streaming and the main reason many purchased the Sonos ecosystem. Many Apple users are using a $3.00 third party app called SonoPhone for iOS only which has allowed local library streaming. Android users do not have that option. There is a real fear that Sonos may not survive this app debacle as their stock and sales are significantly down. They may be purchased by another tech company. It's unknown at this point which is why I advise people to wait to see what happens before investing in Sonos at the moment.

This. I was coming here to basically say the same thing. I've loved my Sonos for years until this App debacle. It really does make what used to be a great system/experience absolutely frustrating now. It is sometimes almost unusable.

I've started researching alternatives and will probably give it through the end of the year at best.

I have Sonos in 9 living spaces in my house…

I have both, and I personally feel that the Era 100 aren't better than the Ones for rears. I do agree they're much better for music.

But I didn't realize you couldn't snag the One SL anymore. I was buying them during sales for around $110 and based on the price difference to sound difference as surrounds, I recommended saving some money.

Yes, Sonos has laid off over 100 of its employees and sales have tanked. The CEO is really under fire for the app debacle because he rushed it out to support the new headphones that have had a lukewarm reception. He did a Reddit AMA and admitted the app was developed by a third party and not done internally. There was rumors that they were going to re-release the previous app but he said there is no way to do that now. I own many Sonos devices but would recommend staying away from Sonos until and if they can fix the app. Half of my devices are currently paperweights. Some people have it worse, some better.

Can you still use the Sonos products without the app, if we just wanted to use them to amplify sound from our TV and for surround sound?

No to minimize the real issues some have had. But I've got a bunch of sonos speakers and I never touch the app so it's not a day to day need. I use it to configure the speaker when its new then never touch it again. So yeah, no real need to use the app unless you're actively reconfiguring your speakers via the app (can do it instead via speaker voice control) or actively magaing music via the app (can do it via voice or any other audio app on your phone, or via Alexa).

If you have an AV Receiver already, I can't recommend these enough - https://www.cambridgeaudio.com/us.../minx-s325. I have this set with 2 subwoofers flanking the media console. The cool thing about them is that they use BMR drivers which widen the "sweet spot" so you can sit off center and still hear balanced stereo. They can get loud too.

Perfect home theater.

Great deal but Sonos probably desperate for business. Sonos new app is killing their business and turning away lots of people. I bought 2 sets from Costco and very unhappy rn. Search their latest news and you will find out.

Don't buy until the app is fixed. I have several Sonos speakers and it is hit or miss if the new, very buggy, app will work on a given day.

So I don't know what you mean by massive but to me I feel my 30X20 Bonus room and my 30x18 living room are good size. I run 2 Moves and OG 5 playbar and two Sonos 1 just for coverage of open floor plan how would you say these the era 100 and 300 compare or for the size rooms what you recommend. I like stuff that sounds good but I'm not like IMAX master if that makes any sense. Thank you
