Ok then. And which non-smart device did you post this comment from?

People love to talk about how things like smart assistants are, "constantly listening to you", all while carrying around a far field mic enabled, multi-camera, GPS enabled smart device almost constantly. Show me the stone tablet you use to connect to the Internet and I'll buy one. Until then, posting any comment like this to Slickdeals is insanely naive and hypocritical. Honestly, who do you think is actually listening? Is it one person per smart device sitting at a desk in an underground bunker just waiting all day for you to have a conversation that they can use against you?

If you want to deny yourself the experience of a modern marvel of entertainment and convenience that these virtual assistants provide, by all means, don't buy them. Just don't go around spreading the narcissistic message that you are special enough for these devices to constantly listen to you.

I work in the tech industry, very closely with Privacy lawyers. The speakers aren't "always listening" to your conversations, relax. The way all of them work is they natively/locally listen (ie without transmitting anything) to their respective catch phrases ("hey Google", alexa, "hey siri" etc) which when spoken, turn the transmit feature on. At that point, anything said immediately after trigger phrase will be transmitted to the servers for decoding into text and a response will be returned to the speaker. Outside of that, the speaker isn't transmitting what is being said around them 24/7. All of them also ask if you want your audio commands transmitted to servers to be saved to potentially be analyzed by an actual human for improvement of their response algorithms - you can opt out of this during setup or at any time under your profile settings.

I used to have this model but sold it some time ago. After updating firmware it was working with airplay2. I may buy it again. Great value for this price.

This is getting into conspiracy territory now....

This is an outstanding speaker but get two because it will do true R/L stereo mode when paired together and will sound amazing. I have two of these and two of the 500 model. The 300s sound very similar to the 500s but just don't go as loud.

Waiting for citation 500 to go on sale again. Only complaint I had with it is they stopped updating the software so it can't play as a group speaker with other Google devices.
