States have different tax rates for cell service, some are minimal, others are over 10%. This is a phone bundle that includes service so you're getting charged whatever your state requires (same with all TF bundles, doesn't matter where it's purchased).

Activate new Orbic phone - during activation select "I want to keep my old number" and transfer it to Orbic, which will have 1yr + remainder of my current plan.
Activate next Orbic phone - repeat the above. The 2nd Orbic now has 2 years + remainder
... Go through the rest of the TEU Shipping container with unactivated Orbics repeating the above :-))))
Use a new BYOD Tracfone SIM in the original phone and activate it using the existing line number thus inheriting all the accumulated time.

The last step worries me a bit given that Tracfone already has its IMEI in their database. I would really hate if some problem in their technically excellent </sarcasm> system left my line in limbo (had it once and never got them to fix it). Any problems I should be aware of?

Like seriously, who doesn't already have a qvc account. I had several of them many years ago but they all got shut down for Coupon FRAUD So stop advising people to just open up a new account. They aren't stupid there. They will eventually block credit cards, shipping addresses and emails.

When I switched back to the original device that had the Tracfone service, I just found that device in my online account and clicked the activate button, then keep my number to move everything back. I did not use a new BYOP SIM because as you said, that phone was already paired with the SIM in it.
