For $57 more, it almost seems better to just get new.

Just when I thought it was impossible for a modern laptop with a dedicated GPU to sell for under $500,
the good Doc comes through with another incredible deal!

Thumbs up and repped!

Considering the RTX 3050 is the entry level for gaming it's far far FAR from mid range gaming.

This crucial 8GB would most likely work fine, but again the absolute best thing is to use the exact same memory already in the laptop.

While many PC components are supposed to be interchangeable as long as the correct type/speed/spec/size etc are used, sometimes this is not the case. This is something that many people who build their own computers find out, sometimes the hard way. It's why I research not only the best components and price, but if those components all work well together.
Thank you all. I thought it was an extra purchase option while purchasing the laptop. I'll buy the laptop for now and look into upgrading after. thanks again.

dont see the point of getting a laptop w a rtx card to play games on a 60hz screen. just get a slimmer/lighter laptop with no dedicated video card

Just get a laptop without a graphics card so you can… not play the games you want to play?

The idea that the difference between 60hz gaming and 120hz+ gaming is so stark that 60hz gaming isn't worth it is fundamentally untrue. That's along the lines of saying 1080P gaming isn't worth it because 4K exists. 'Oh no, the images are slightly fuzzier! I better just give up and go play Solitaire'

I've seen these same laptops in the past have a 3050 6GB, which is obviously better... so for those who need a little more gaming performance than 3050 4GB, try waiting for that to go on sale or buy a laptop with a 4050 6GB. ($130-$150 more)

I remember checking gaming benchmarks and the 6GB graphics version is indeed a decent amount faster than 4GB - enough to justify grabbing the 6GB one if you can. It was roughly the same price or just slightly more expensive when on sale in the past.

30 fps used to be norm on gaming laptops because of how the technology was at the time lol and then you appear on 2024 πŸ˜‚

Depends on what you need - light weight , touch screen, long battery life or a heavy gaming laptop?
So they are exactly the same Wink

Your comment doesn't make sense....so you stop waiting to game once you hit a certain "hertz" threshold? What is the cutoff, 60hz, 90, 120...or 73.12?

Not to mention there are mounds of reasons someone might want a dedicated GPU not even talking about gaming....and wait until someone tells you about external monitors.

wait til someone tells you that plugging in external monitors to a laptop means its not portable anymore .
i find 60hz to be unplayable on shooters and twitch games which is what i play most of the time. 60hz may be fine for you, but if i were buying a new laptop with a rtx card i would not consider one w a 60hz display...its almost inconceivable for someone who games like i do to build a desktop with an rtx card for gaming and get a 60hz monitor, so why buy a laptop setup that way.

for me 60hz gaming is not worth it, i play mostly shooters and twitchy games and find 60hz unplayable at this point. just because you dont notice the difference when you play solitaire only reinforces my point, buy a laptop with no dedicated card and play solitaire all day, would be the same as having a 4090 and a 4k 144hz display. good luck

Wait until someone tells you that you can still game "portable" (with your 5lb laptop) even at 60hz. Or do games suddenly explode when played at less than 120hz? Last I checked they don't but I could be imaging the Xbox, PS(whatever), 30+ years of personal PC gaming at normally less than 120hz

And the laptop is still portable, just pull out the HDMI or USB C plug and...BAM you are portable again. Magic. I'd be happy to run down a tutorial of how that works if needed.

Or we could buy a 7" Amazon Ebook reader because why do we need a GPU at anything less than a 240hz and RTX 4090 so let's compare something entirely different for no logical reason. Maybe a 4 slice toaster? 60hz always makes me hungry for almost burnt bread shake head

yeah i'd rather not play at all than play modern shooters on 60hz...if youre playing solitaire or a lot of other games sure, but i wouldnt buy a laptop with an rtx card to play those types of games. if my monitor suddenly changed to 60hz i would immediately notice it regardless of how long your old eyes have been looking at 30 fps. not sure why you are talking about xbox etc, those limitations are specifically why many people end up gaming on pc instead

Playing "solitaire?" LOL...okay.

Seriously who is claiming to be hardcore gaming on a 15.6 screen with a crippled GPU then complaining he isn't getting the full "mOdErN ShOoTeR" experience on said 15" screen* while his video card is maxing out at less than 100 watts? Come on, is that really the stance we are talking. Do you also drag race a Ford Fiesta LMAO2

And the market share for console to PC gamers....consoles win every year, and by a fat margin. As much as I hate a console that is the truth. Clearly some people don't die when playing Call of Duty 73 at only 60 frames per second.

Bye bye kiddo, enjoy not playing games on that "slimmer" i3 with 8gb of RAM...that will teach'm!

*I played Quake 1 back in the day on a bigger monitor.
