Yes, Linksys LN1301 is a terrific router with 2 GB RAM and 1 GB of flash. Insane! I thought my Netgear R7800 with 512 MB RAM is pretty good until the specs on LN301 blows the R7800 out of the water and is a tri-band router as well!

With wireless mesh (instructions below), it's one heck of a deal and blows DECO AX5000 deal out of the water, imho.

EDIT: UPDATED instructions for enabling MESH (thanks to @rbtcordell for the original source):

1-Setup your Main router completely.

2-Plug your child node using the wan port to the main router lan port, wait for a solid purple light on the child node before proceeding

3-Log into your main router web admin.

4-Click on CA at the bottom right.

5-Click on Connectivity and CA Router setup.

6-Click on both Add Wired and Add Wireless nodes buttons. Wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable.

7-Click Done adding Child Nodes and then Apply.

8-Now the child node light should start flashing purple and turn into a mesh mode when it turns blue.

9-Disconnect Ethernet and wait for blue light again.

10-Move node to desired location.

set it as an Access Point.
1. Disable DHCP (optional)
2. Set the device to Bridge Mode under Connectivity tab
3. Connect cable from your router to a LAN port.
4. Get some nail polished and a round sticker to cover the annoying flashing right light.
5. Click the 'AC' at the bottom of the page to see the detail configurations of wifi.

Is this router better than the ASUS Zenwifi XT8? I currently have two set up in my house as mesh network, but would replace it with these routers if they're faster/more stable

Question: (I'm not an expert in networking) can the child node be another wireless router (or satellite) from another manufacturer? TIA
Short answer no. Mesh is generally manufacturer specific and requires supported routers from that same manufacturer. That is not Linksys specific. If you are using Asus they all need to be Asus with AI mesh support. If you are using TP-Link they all need to be TP-Link with OneMesh. Those Mesh setup instructions are definitely Linksys specific and even specific to using one of these as both the parent and child node. You could potentially mix brands by going openWRT or DDWRT on all of them and using the Mesh support built into them.

I assume that all the vendor specific mesh implementations are based on one of the standards that OpenWRT or DDWRT use for mesh but with tweaks to make setup easier, improve functionality or add extra functionality. For example AIMesh on my Asus router lets me see and update firmware's on all the nodes on a wireless mesh setup.
If you want a Mesh setup these are cheap enough I see no reason not to order a couple

What would be the best configuration to add a single Linksys LN1301 to an existing M9Deco setup? Should the Linksys LN1301 be placed b4 the M9 setup or vice versa? Looking to extend current M9 range.
Quote from Timless :
if you want it easily work, then get another M9Deco

otherwise it takes some setup to mesh
Stick with the Deco as it's closer to a real mesh system. Funny, most folks dont get that many of these systems arent real mesh networks, just glorified access points added on. A mesh network actively manages channels and transmission power across the nodes to optimize the reliability for the environment.

In any chase, you can buy any model Deco and it will work with your existing M9 system. Heck if you setup the newer Deco as the primary the entire network of older devices will get some benefit (this is what TP-Link advises when you mix deco units).

This is a nice value cheap router but I wouldnt rely on Linksys or netgear for much after many years of bad experiences with both.

How does this compare to a AC68U flashed with Merlin? For $15 I might just buy it to play around with it anyway.
That's what I upgraded from. Blows it out of the water. I didn't realize how much speed I was missing from my internet.

Hi, I got three of these and plan on doing the mesh thing. If you didn't catch it from the term "mesh thing" I'm not particularly good at this kind of thing and haven't done this before.

I have a couple questions if someone would be so kind?

Do I set the child nodes one at a time or how do you set both child nodes at once?
Can I use my single TP link extender (or the old router) in the garage as an extender for one of these...or all of them?
Would I use the parent if it's just connected to one or can I use one of the child nodes to extend my range from there?
If I used the parent, the tplink and one child node would end up roughly in the same physical location. Would this cause interference or be less effective than just using the Linksys alone for that last leg? I can't really move the location of the parent because the the modem and wires are at the center of the house.

Thanks in advance and thanks to everyone who posted the instructions!

so worth it. I bought the $20 deal to replace a Blackhawk X6 (and made it an AP). Works fantastically out of the box in my 1900 sq ft home.

I want to buy this as an add-on extension around the backyard but I wonder if this would be compatible with the Orbi one?
No, only Linksys Velop or when flashed to OpenWRT, other OpenWRT devices.

Ordered one for backup. Currently using an old Netgear Orbi system at home. It works most of the time but there have been glitches! Just wondering if this Linksys router can be configured to work with the Netgear Orbi 🤔

Can I use this router in Client Mode to connect to hotel wifi's, coworking wifi, etc so that I can use a built in VPN via DD-WRT to mask my location?
Not with stock firmware.

Uhhhh
You convert the router to child nodes one at a time. I just did 3 and set them to the side.
The TP link extender would be a last leg item. used to extend the range of the SSID network beyond the children. it can not be used to extend the range inbetween children.
