Personally, I don't like Gasoline only generators (for occasional uses) because gas goes bad and it takes more maintenance than a propane or natural gas operated (think dual/tri-fuel) generators.

One could use a conversion kit but with the added cost and effort, I'd rather get one that supports gas out of the box.

Ya that stuff works really well. I put a splash in everything I have going into winter. 6 5 gallon fuel cans, both mowers, both generators, both 4 wheelers just in case. I've seen gas go bad pretty quickly over winter but using this stuff so far has been great.

You may live close to a gas station with ethanol free gas.

Do you actually have a meter on your panel to see what your main and the larger circuits are pulling? Fridges/freezers use like 100w to maintain temps.

An AC/heatpump uses about 1500w-3000w.

But our water, stove and dryer is gas.

People way over estimate how much power they use. The only time our house goes over 10kW is when we're charging our EVs.

We have an Emporia Vue monitoring like 30 circuits and the Tesla gateway monitoring the grid/solar/battery.

Gasoline is fine if you have enough on hand. Just need to ensure you shut it down before long term storage by turning the petcock fuel valve off while it's running so that it burns all the fuel in the carb so it doesn't get gummed up.

I'm sure the THD is standard 23%. At this price point you can't expect 5% or lower. What kill this generator is that fact that it doesn't have a 50 amp out and it should. That makes this a solid pass.

Gas does not go bad. Nobody carries propane tanks around

Not a bad detail if you need the output capacity, don't care about the noise, and THD is not an issue... negatives: Its not an inverter and is not dual-fuel. I found the generator sweetspot for my 3200sf house... Champion 8750w inverter open frame electric start gas only uses 8gallons per day. Runs everything I need such as fridge, freezer, microwave, washer, furnace, main AC (with softstart), lights. It will not run the Oven, Dryer and one of my AC units. I do have Nat-gas for heat and water. I contemplated getting a larger unit ( 12k) which has a 50amp connector but it would use almost twice the fuel per day and if I wanted it to be an inverter it would be at least 3x the cost. Very hard to justify the additional cost for 12k for a "backup" that I only use 2-3 times per year. The most amount of continuous time I needed a unit for my house has been 1 week (2 separate occasions ) in the last 20 years. I dont live in CA so I dont suffer from the blackout situation

I have easy access to no-ethanol fuel but I still drain my fuel afterwards... One upside to Gasoline it does have higher energy density vs nat-gas but not nearly as cheap.

Gas absolutely goes bad especially when it contains ethanol. You can treat it and you should be ok but you should also run the carb dry when storing any engine for a long period of time.

No generator of this output wattage should not have a 50 amp output plug. This is a total fail on Generac.

Gas that contains ethanol absolutely does go bad, and rather quickly too. Ethanol/alcohol absorbs moisture from the air which causes it to gel and form deposits that clog up lines and carburetors. Sta-bil probably helps some but it's not a cure.

I only use non-ethanol (non-oxygenated) gas in all of my small engines and I have had very little issues with storage times over a year.
