Back when I was starting out as a newspaper photographer in nearby Santa Clarita, I worked with this guy who was telling me about this cool knife company his uncle owns out in Ventura. He's telling me about all these cool knives and swords and stuff they make, and if I ever want to get some stuff at cost to let him know. I never took him up on the offer, but then Cold Steel blew up and I remembered his uncle's name was Lynn.
I wonder how these modern ones compare with opening Amazon boxes

Really any US brand with an overseas model is going to be made by Fox, We, Joti, whoever makes Navy etc. The fact that CS also didn't have domestic production means they have always really just been a design and marketing entity with outside production.
Interestingly, Fallkniven began as just a CS reseller until they started having their own designs manufactured as well.

CS can prolly get the job done for 95% of the people at a lower cost.
ZT prolly has better material and design... But it costs.
Cost is a factor when your goal is to get a job done and who is best.
