The RAM is soldered in, so not replaceable. Which is sooooo stupid. Just why?

Acer's Swift line is designed to be lightweight, so soldered components are the norm. It's hard to find a 16" laptop that weighs less than 3 lbs.

Does this Laptop is plasticky and feels cheap (like LG Gram)?

For the price, 16 GB is fine.

I never looked into this. Why do they solder it? What does soldering RAM into a laptop mobo accomplish?
Faster clocks and lower power consumption.....
Make a big difference with 7840.

How is the noise level? I heard ACER is notorious for fan noises...

Extremely loud
I bought and the sound made me feel like it's defective. replace and it's the same.
7840u is already loudest for all chips. this model is even louder. louder than i7+4070 laptop. high pitch noise as a fully loaded desktop from 0 load. it is that bad. crazily bad. returned mine.

Is it good for CAD programs like Solidworks, AutoCAD? For a 4 year engineering. What's the best deal around these price now?

This thing is definitely an incredible deal for the right savvy person.
With dual USB C 4's you can set up an incredible egpu setup using the ' UT3G ' EGPU you can purchase for $100 off aliexpress, it allows full USB 4 bandwidth, and then you can get a compact 3080 gpu off eBay for as low as $350 I've seen, and then powering it with a quality 400 Watt plus evga gold power supply, probably find that for 50 bucks, or get a compact power supply, rig it together with some black zip ties or something to your liking and you got a superstation with this awesome OLED screen and awesome APU/cpu

I'd like to know this too. Solidworks has a very limited list of "approved" graphics cards, which I'm sure is overkill.

https://www.solidworks.com/suppor...ification/ lists Lenovo ThinkPad P16s with the same Ryzen 7840U CPU and Radeon 780M iGPU as certified with Solidworks 2024.

Why would you make it user replaceable? For the tiny percentage of people that would ever want to replace it?

I don't think the amount of people that would like to have upgradeable RAM is a "tiny percentage", that's some Apple mindset right there. Upgrading RAM is generally the easiest and most cost efficient way to improve the performance of an older computer, aside from swapping from HDD to SSD which we're basically past now. 16gb is fine for most situations right now, but 4gb was considered fine at some point in the past and would be practically unusable at this point. My current laptop is an Acer from 2014 which I have upgraded from HDD to SSD, 8gb to 16gb of RAM, and replaced the battery a few years ago. I get that there are some performance gains to be had by soldering components but that eliminates the option for upgradeability, which means you're more likely to buy another product sooner, which means more profits for the company.

With all that said, this still seems like a killer deal, but would absolutely be made more slick if the RAM was upgradeable
