i took zipair with my family in June SFO-NRT. If you don't expect blankets, pillows, food, water etc. Then it's totally fine. In 10 hours you will be in Japan. We bought some food and brought it on the airplane, it was totally fine. I would take it again. Budget, no frills airline, bring your own entertainment, laptop, tablet with videos/games and the time will fly by quick. In flight wifi is trash, its basically used for ordering food and snacks on the flight. I would take zipair again. They do weigh your carry-on luggage at check-in, then put a sticker on it. If you are 5 people, each person gets 7kg limit, so they weigh all your bags together to make sure they are under 35kgs etc.

Pay attention to the luggage weight. 7kg is *not* much at all and between carry on and backpack is pretty easily exceeded. It *was* enforced at least when I flew, and I ended up having to check my bag, so tack on extra for that. Might be slightly cheaper to just pay for overage fees to carry on anyways but they didn't suggest or offer me that at the time.

If you do buy, make sure to buy travel insurance. Zip air will not refund your flights pretty much in all cases. I'd never book them for this reason alone.

Travel credit cards like Chase Sapphire should cover this if I'm not mistaken

Not usually. They will cover trip interruptions etc. but if you break an ankle or have a need to change the flight for any reason, you will need additional travel insurance. Zip air is extremely unforgiving when it comes to booking travel. Once you pay, there is very limited to no ability to change.

I agree with this assessment! I also took the SFO-NRT flight in June.
When we booked our tickets, we ordered meals and treats for everyone in our group and they were fine. The meals were typical airplane food. The treats were like little chocolates or banana flavored kitkats, maybe $6-10 for each treat - not much of a markup.
Definitely don't count on any decent entertainment on the inflight wi-fi. Make sure to load up your own devices with entertainment.
At the time, our flights cost about $866 per person round trip for the tickets then another 140 per person for taxes and fees. We had one checked bag each.
Absolutely loved Japan and can't wait to go back. I would definitely fly zipair again.

as always: obviously if you can afford it, get the lie flat seats. highly recommended. you do only get the seat and nothing else, but it is absolutely worth the $1k.

in all cases? you mean if zip cancels the flight, they won't refund you? that's not legal IIRC

If they cancel the flight, they might refund you, although I've read online that they do the bare minimum to help in those cases.
