The one I ordered just came in today and it was definitely a store model. The unit itself has cosmetic damage on the body so I'm already dealing with a refund or replacement.

Solid price, but note that the Guitar Center page (https://www.guitarcenter.com/Sche...0409112.gc ) has the following disclaimer: "Limited stock available. This item will ship from store and may not arrive in its original packaging."

Since MF and GC are the same company, I'd expect this warning to apply to MF purchases also.

Thank you. I appreciate you not only answering my question but also answering the question as to why it might be more suitable to those types of music in the first place. The comment on the MF review didn't mention anything about the pickups at all.
An active pickup lets them use a rather "weak" pickup (in terms of its inductance). They take that weak signal from the string vibration and amplify to normal levels (hence the "active") and send it to the amp.

Because the inductance is so much lower, it doesn't pick up as much electrical noise, so there's less garbage going into the gain section of the amplifier. Thus, you're amplifying actual guitar not the 60 Hz hum and cell phone noise.

Why couldn't you just price match this deal with guitar center and get a brand new in box model.

You can, so long as the store has one in stock in the box. No MF rewards, if that matters to you.

Talk to a gear advisor at guitar center online. I typically am able to get a discount or free accessories. Helps offset MF points.

Even on ones that don't say that....they can ship from a guitar center store if you buy from GC or MF. How do I know? I returned 4 Gibson Les Pauls last year and never did get one unopened. They wouldn't discount them either. One had a fretboard separating from the neck. One was dinged up. One had a really crappy binding job on it. One was perfect....except a defective push pull pot. And would have to replace a circuit board instead of just a pot (thanks, technology). It was just ridiculous.
If you call your sales rep they can tell you where it will ship from and even request one from the warehouse. The last time I ordered a guitar from Musician's Friend, my rep told me there were four of the guitar I wanted in the warehouse but otherwise would ship from a store. They put in a request and I got a brand new sealed one.

Schecter has a great reputation for quality. Guitar Center no longer does. I wonder whether a reputable retailer is replicating this deal on NIB guitars.

This is why guitar center sucks. And yes, it's guitar center. They acquired MF in 2000. I've gotten product from them just packed in bubble rap with no swag or manuals. This is why I have no qualms returning sh!t straight back to them (or doing a charge back when they give you sh!t) and writing a review pointing out the fact it's a repeat situations with them. Stand up for yourself and the money you spend. Bait and switch imo. Deal with Sweetwater. Those guys kick a$$. Maybe this PRS is your speed even if it's a bit more. As of today, the axe is the same price.

Musicians Fiend pulled this bs on me years ago so many times. I wouldn't even deal with them it was such a hassle. Then I got a "Gear Advisor" and this guy makes sure the things I buy are brand new not some drop shipped garbage from Guitar Center that someone either took back or has been played by every little kid that goes there. I still don't mess with them too much but with the gear advisor I saved 20% on my last USA Jackson and got almost $200 in points (which is store credit) . I like Sweetwater and they don't ever try to scam.
