Headrush doesnt have the greatest track record when it comes to support and software/firmware updates. I have the MX5 and it took them over a year just to release the latest firmware which includes less than a handful of new features which aren't super significant. Compared to the likes of Line6, Quad Cortex, Tonex, etc they're lagging when it comes to their software development schedules.

That aside, the MX5 is great for what it is. Currently it is my acoustic rig and can be considered my backup electric rig. The IR loading capability and fidelity are great but the amp models not so much. I think the newer units are better. I believe the Prime bas the ability to capture/profile amps and stuff too. I plan to get an HX Stomp eventually and or maybe a Quad Cortex or Fractal.

I'm specifically looking for a multi effects pedal with expression/wham to sound exactly like Trey. Would this be appropriate in lieu of building a board at greater price?

You can probably get pretty close. I would say you can do it with even lower cost multi fx units too like the HX Stomp/Stomp XL, the LT Helix, MX5 etc… there are some guys out there who have tried to go for the Trey sound

The product has a lot of potential. The post-development and execution of it are the problem.

No, it doesn't have much potential. The problem is that it's essentially a multipurpose SoC that's trying to compete with DSP-driven systems. Lower resolution models, not much support, and not the right hardware for the job. If you want a crappy modeler, buy one of the Chinese non-brands and save a lot. Or buy a Kemper, Helix, Fractal, or Boss for about the same money and get a purpose-built, well-supported solution with a lot of industry use.

My POD Go just broke. I replaced it with a Quad Cortex. I absolutely love this thing.

My buddy has a QC as well but unfortunately one of the knobs doesnt work when turning it so he had to send it back for repair. In the meantime he is planning to get a Tonex One as he builds out a backup rig Smilie

Didn't realize the difference was to that extent... Headrush *claims* "DSP" but it's pseudo-DSP based on looking into it further. Anyway, it just further reinforces my intention to move away from and avoid Headrush products in general. I will say that I have used the MX5 in live situations on several occasions and it's fine (at the price point at which I got it, especially) - it is a great 'starter'/intro unit to expose someone to the world of multiFX and pedals, etc without making a huge initial investment (I'm currently past the point of no return currently lol). If I had to do it over again, I'd probably have jumped on a deal for the HX Stomp... I still can't believe how the prices on that thing have gone UP...smh

Tonex is really nice if you don't need effects. They have a great (and huge) set of amp and cab models. Honestly, it's hard to go wrong these days.

I have a couple Tonex Ones. Really like them a lot. Using one for my drive section and the other for amp/cab modeling. Its impressive the number of models out there. Only thing that is annoying about it is the unintuitive UI/UX. They seriously could use some improvement in this area lol
