A friend told me to never send the ecb's to my card and now I know why. I thought that she was just being paranoid. I can't wrap my head around how somebody can hack a made-up phone # in a different state and know that the card has ecb's on it.
This could be a stranger trying to find 'free' money or it could be a cashier who didn't listen carefully enough to someone when they gave their phone number. My guess is 99% of the people who don't actively coupon at CVS are not going to question the total they need to pay if it is lower than they expect.

Quote from freebirddc :
It wouldn't make sense for such a scammer to also use coupons and extrabucks, as they would have no shortage of fraudulent gift cards to use and it wouldn't be wise to leave a paper trail. I've being paying my oop with the same low value gift card for weeks now.

At any rate I got a survey email so I gave the store all zeros and wrote a lengthy comment incorporating the suggestions offered here. It seemed better to do it this way rather than a phone call so that there's a record. Idk what action will be taken if any but the two accounts I use are still working as of yesterday and hopefully will continue to. I would rather avoid phone calls but would appreciate guidance as to whether I should also email customer service.
There are ecbs being purposely stolen, where a person has sent their ecbs to their card. In fact, there was discussion on Reddit awhile back about an employee who noticed a guy using a variety of numbers, reported it to LP and they tied those purchases to customers who had reported their ecbs being used by someone else. By the time they had enough research into it, the guy who was doing it stopped shopping at that store.

The surveys they send us by email, unless it is a special survey done as part of the advisor program, only are seen by the manager of the store you have shopped at. Giving them all zeros on a survey will negatively impact that specific store. Unfortunately, I have never found a CVS store manager who cares to do anything for someone who has given them bad survey scores. So hopefully the survey you responded to was done as part of the advisor program.

It was in a different state. The area codes aren't even close (I just checked). The odds of somebody in a different state picking a phone # in CA at random and the card having ecb's on it are like a billion to one. It's more likely that somebody got that number at a store that I've shopped at and then gave it to a friend in another state. It wouldn't be anybody at my local CVS. I'm friends with everybody and I've known them for a long time. I've been using this card a lot at Vons recently. I'm friends with the self-checkout cashiers so maybe it was a customer looking over my shoulder. CVS and Vons are the only two places where I've used the phone #. Sometimes I go into Vons with a bag from CVS since Vons is on my way home from CVS and I'm walking. A couple of days ago I had to leave the self-checkout area to grab something that I forgot. It's possible that somebody got my phone # then and saw the CVS bag in my cart.

What does that have to do with it? I have several friends that have lived in one state, moved to another but kept their cell. People could have family members in other states that they allow to use their card. People could be travelling. So many different reasons. That's why my initial answer said, typed in the wrong number accidentally or on purpose. Sometimes it is an honest mistake and like s'momma said, most people who don't coupon for real are not going to complain or question if a cashier says, hey, you have X amount of EB on your card, would you like to use them? I would be more worried if you didn't have EB sent to your card and someone was able to access them and use them.

I didn't have ebs stolen, that's someone else. I was the one with the shift supervisor who was suspicious that I wouldn't let her grab my gift card.

I did the store survey. Whenever I give a low rating I get an email response from the store manager, so I had no idea they don't get seen by anyone else. Sounds like I should also email customer service then? This store is slightly cheaper than the other ones in my expensive area so that's my only reason for shopping there occasionally but being reported for doing nothing wrong isn't worth it.

My first comment to you was based on your statement, "It wouldn't make sense for such a scammer to also use coupons and extrabucks, as they would have no shortage of fraudulent gift cards to use and it wouldn't be wise to leave a paper trail. I've being paying my oop with the same low value gift card for weeks now." I thought that comment from you was in response to what FabulousPickle had said.

I think I originally suggested you speak direct to the manager when you brought up what happened. I know I've shared before how much the manager's appreciate direct contact about issues. The way they act in response to my concerns tells me whether I should follow up with a negative survey or contact with the district manager.

You do realize that the stores are graded on their surveys, right? They need 9's or 10's on the surveys to keep their grading up. I'm pretty sure an 8 is not even enough any more, though it is easier to overcome an 8 with other great surveys. If you give them a 0, and they only get 10 surveys in a week, they have to have 10's from the other 9 surveys, or they fail. That's why most managers are going to prefer the opportunity to fix a problem with you directly instead of getting a survey with a 0 on it.

The odds change because the pool of possible phone numbers is much larger. It doesn't mean that it can't happen but it makes me think that it's more likely that my card was hacked. I'm not the expert on this stuff. I'm just looking at the mathematics of it being a random event.

Sorry about the confusion. I was responding to the earlier posts about gift card fraud, not fabulous pickles post about having ebs stolen.

I very rarely see a manager there when i shop - my understanding is they're typically in only early in the day on weekdays and I rarely have time to make phone calls at those hours, much less go shopping. And I thought it best to have a paper trail in case someone tries to cancel my card, so I put it in the survey instead. I'm not really clear on the purpose of the surveys. I've not seen any store take action due to my survey responses. I'd be glad to email the manager or district manager but don't have their contact info. Otherwise I'll see if I get a chance to call that store but it might be weeks before I do.

I'm not sure how CVS works but in general one of things the SM's bonus is based on is his survey scores. Anything less than 10's is a negative. Turning in a survey with zero's would be a bad thing for the SM.

FYI, all CVS store managers are required to work at least one evening shift a week and at least two weekend shifts per month. I know some of the managers have fought this requirement in the past, but this year it is supposedly one of the factors that will impact their bonuses.

One more thing to keep in mind about surveys - in some stores the 'survey follow up' is assigned out to a supervisor. So it is entirely possible the supervisor you are upset with might be the one who will see the survey you completed. Not all stores do this, and I don't know if there is any requirement they report a poor survey on their own actions to someone else in the store (ie Ops Mgr or the Store Mgr).

It is, in fact, entirely possible if you have given the store bad surveys in the past, that the supervisor you had the run in with recognized you as someone who gives their store bad surveys. I know several store managers who actually check the time from the receipt associated with the survey and then go back to the cameras they have at the front to look at who the person is. I don't think the cameras have sound, but they can usually see what you look like, along with how an interaction occurred between you and any employee at the registers.

I have nothing invested in you reaching out to the store or not. I was only suggesting to you what I think would help you improve the situation for your benefit. If you're not going to follow up quickly on this, I think you let this go and just shop at other stores.

I know that's true at Wags but I don't know about weekends. As far as sound, there's definitely sound at Wags and some stores have the sound piped into the DM's office from what I've heard. At RA, when you do a void LP gets alerted and they can monitor the transaction with video and sound. You're always being watched when you're in a drugstore. It's a very bad place to pick your nose. I thought with bad surveys at CVS that the DM gets to see them and then has a talk with the SM. My policy with surveys is to always do them if a store asks me to and give them all 10's. If I can't do that, I won't do the survey and I also won't shop at the store. I wish that I could do a for real survey. I don't think that it helps a store to give them 10's when they're really a 5.

It's time to look @ tissue again lol.
(4) Kleenex 3pk - I prefer the 160's but the 120's are also a choice @ 6.49per, 25.96
Get 5 ECB
Net 20.96 for 12boxes. $1.75per box.
~ Cottonelle and Viva are also part of the ECB offer.

Puffs 4pk $5.99 sale. $1.50per box.
Seems like the 4pk is all cube'd @ 48ct.

IF you have some $5 PG from pg everyday - the one's I got last month (Aug) and today (Sept) were all x 10/31. I was agreeable to using the $5's on the Puf's, and thankfully $5 came off my buy. I only had the Puff's in my buy & thankfully it wasn't de-valued.
