The stainless steel variants have a sapphire crystal screen, instead of the crappier glass on the aluminum models. Sapphire is much more resistant to scratching. In 3 years with the S4 stainless and 2 years with the S8 stainless I've never managed to scratch either one. Smacked against walls, door handles, all kinds of sh*t. Case scratched up? Easy --> polish it. If you care about screen scratches (and they drive you nuts), the stainless is suuuuuuuper worth it for the sapphire screen.

I honestly haven't had many issues at all with the Milanese band that came with my stainless Apple Watch. I have really hairy arms but it's rare for them to catch on the edge of the band. This only applies to the ones made by Apple. If you get a third party no-name Milanese band from eBay or wherever, those will rip your hair out guaranteed.

I just told myself that I don't need anything else, now I'm staring at my two year old Apple Watch SE + cellular and wondering if I should upgrade…is there anything that I'm missing?

Same here, wore the series 4 midnight stainless steel for years and unfortunately, it would not be supported by the next watchos. You can still pick up the $299 with Milanese loop if you want midnight. I decided to pick up the silver one with sports band and save $50 as I can reuse the black Milanese loop from my old series 4.

Yeah really. Brutal. I bought the S8 Stainless full price when it came out. No regrets, but the resale is complete sh*t. If there's a big redesign I might buy the new one this year... But deals like this make me question whether I should LMAO. $250 for the 45mm stainless is insane.


First watch was a Stainless S4 (Best Buy, sale similar to this one). I was torn between S5 aluminum and S4 Stainless. 10000% worth getting the stainless. Sapphire screen --> ZERO scratches, ever. On the S4 or S8 stainless. And the stainless case can be polished, and also looks great. You can make it elegant with the Milanese band, or use the sport band for daily use.

I sold my 7 stainless with 85% battery for $215 in June. Was hoping for a big upgrade with the 10 (X). Pulled the trigger now since nothing indicates a real functionality upgrade with the new X watch, aside from a larger screen. We will know more on 9/9. At this point we shall see if I keep it for return it, but for $300 this is a steal. Excellent watch. Never go Aluminum of you can get the better glass and frame at this price.
