M4 macs will be 16GB RAM minimum. These will drop in price quickly !
I hope that's true and it would make sense for Apple's plans for AI integration, but it doesn't seem to have come from someone with a strong track record, e.g. Gurman.
Alternatively you can get a 13 inch M3 MBA 16GB 256GB for $1200 - $150 GC ~ $1050 from apple edu store, if SSD size is not critical. 512gb is too small anyway during the lifetime of this MBA.
This is $300 more than M2 8GB MBA, but I think it's worth the upgrade for the additional RAM and newer CPU.

Fair point but IMO it makes sense given the demands AI features / capabilities are going to put on PCs and phones. Strong rumours already that next year's iPhones will have really juiced up RAM too. Seems inevitable really that the Macs will also follow suit.
Also, it's not like they don't have a track record of doing something similar - storage and memory wise. Base RAM in their devices has gone up every few years and ditto for storage (see iPhone X 64GB and iPhone 15 128GB base both $999, 6-7 years apart, plus other examples)
finally a posting of 16gb MacBooks but yes over priced as with anything apple. go have fun remember its soldered on so you better keep it and if anything breaks you cannot replace it without paying for almost a new machine.
keep blaming inflation when its not.
especially not chip shortage.
