Traditionally, Chinese use cleavers as the primary knife for all meal preps. See the 80s/90s cooking show Yan can cook https://youtu.be/uwI-PoawRhU?si=nYiC8I4bHD7utIfB

Or even better, the opening scene of Lee Ang's masterpiece Eat Drink Man Woman

Master chefs use one big knife for tasks big and small

I've been pretty pleased with the 8 inch Shi Ba Zi Zuo Chinese chef knife available online for about 30 bucks. It's a good weight, held an edge, taken minimal maintenance, etc. Rarely use German or Japanese now. Just the "cleaver" and a paring knife.

Just used this tonight, got it from the last deal.

Great entry-level cleaver, would buy it again!

What are cleavers meant for other than splitting limbs and what not off meat? That's a real question. I don't have one and I am wondering if I need one.

Hong Kong gangsters use these to fight since guns are banned and they are pretty hard to get.

Besides this is the only kind of knife my late grand father used as a cook from Hong Kong, used it to cut onions, cut up chicken , and in construction even used it as a hammer. Its a tool for everything when you grow up with nothing such as much of the famine land of China

I confess I've never used one UConnMRB but going by youtube videos people use it as an all purpose knife/smasher/scooper. One to do it all. I appreciate their skill and it looks cool. They certainly aren't as pretty as this one, in a negative way for this one.

Some people use them for chopping vegetables and such, things for which you may use a different knife. It depends what your training was, but if you can't think of a need for one, save your money. Buying one won't change that.

I've never bought a "nice" cleaver, and I have bought a hell of a lot of nice knives. The only cleaver that I have is a Kiwi that I bought like 30 years ago for five bucks. As I mentioned above, it's mostly just to punch holes in the bottoms of cans.

I use cleavers only to either pound cuts of meat flat or use the corner to pop a hole in the bottom of cans to break the vacuum. This might do it, but a rule of knife purchasing is that if they don't tell you what kind of steel it is, there's a reason they don't want you to know.

The target market for this is people who don't know a damn thing about knives. Where's _A2/max253468? This deal is perfect for xir.
This deal is far from Gjallarhorn

Why does the vacuum on a can need to be broken? I don't get it? Like, canned vegetables and fruits, or some industrial product?
