- many major auto parts stores accept used oil, e.g. Autozone, Pep Boys, Walmart, Advance Auto, etc
- many other major stores accept used oil, e.g. Home Depot, Tractor Supply
- many independent mechanic shops accept used oil
- many municipalities will accept hazardous waste (transfer station)
I don't really do to save the $. Too many experiences of oil change places even dealer screwed up. This year alone friends and co-workers. Oil filter put on leaking due to didn't notice jeep had old filter gasket come off from oil filter and Valvoline jammed on new one.
Another 2 cranked on drain plug cracked oil pan on 2019 Hyundai that already burns oil and all drained out day later. Honda and separate Hyundai dealer overfilled. Quick change places caught not changing filter.
Who knows what crap oil the dump in and $1 filter when changing you $120. No thanks.
Ramps and hour of my time max is same as time driving to and from places that screw up and kill cars.
Can't do it yourself? Team with a buddy show up have cup of coffee and chat as you both do it using their tools.
Can also just find a good local shop and pay $130 or whatever. Cheaper than new engine and higher car payment.
Many don't mind you bringing filter and oil if you are loyal and actually do repairs they recommend.
Might be a while before you give them work so just be nice to them. It's very tough to survive as repair shop with bad car designs and junk new parts now.
Good cars really don't need brakes or tires for at least 50-60,000 miles. Tie rods, control arms etc usually very long, struts 100,000+. Junk sway bar stabilizers often sooner. Just change and check oil maybe gdi cleaning each year or every few.
My Toyota manual says every 10K but I decided to stretch to 15K and analysis came back excellent with <1% gasoline and said the oil had wear typical of 6900miles. I could probably go 20K, which may be the next interval I test out.
I can't afford any repairs
