As a rule of thumb, brands that started as knifemakers but expanded to other kitchenware (like Wusthof or Zwilling) make decent knives. Brands that went the other way (Farberware, Cusinart, KitchenAid) don't tend to make very good knives. It's usually not an issue of materials alone - it's more often poor blade geometry that hinders cutting performance, as well as poor ergonomic design.
This knife's blade is rather thick behind the cutting edge. It'll cut food, but certainly not effortlessly no matter how sharp the actual edge is. You'll experience wedging when cutting harder foods like carrots. And repeated sharpening will only make the issue worse unless you thin the blade (and a knife like this arguably isn't worth the effort - or the price to have it thinned for you).
I don't know for sure if the same holds true for the santoku. But even if its blade geometry is different, I find in general that 5" is a very awkward size for a santoku. The height of a santoku makes the blade clumsy for detail work, but it's also not quite tall enough to afford enough knuckle clearance for easy chopping like a 6.5"-7" santoku would. Worst of both worlds. At this length, I think a petty/utility knife would be much more versatile.
