This price range can net you a 4060 8gb laptop, but the build quality won't be as nice as this. Everything has a trade off I guess.

Yeah. I'm torn. The man is not a gentle man, nor overly tech savvy. Mostly he just wants it to play WoW, gloomhaven and baldurs gate.

WoW would run fine at the native res but BG3 wont. IMO I would try to stay with something like a rtx 4060 8gb just have to make sure it's not a super low wattage one like some of the MSI ones are. That being said this laptop is decent but the 4050 kills it IMO for the price they are asking.

The 4060 X14s have been $1100 recently. If you can get 10% cashback and $50+ from Amex, these deals become decent.

For gaming I'd stick with a 4060 unless you really love Alienware.

The 300 nit screen on our Alienware X14 is perfectly fine, it's just no OLED.

Yes. There are basically two classes of non oled. Bad and ok ones. This is the ok one. Good for everything other than outdoor. But not surprising anyone with that color. It's just...ok.
Oled is in a totally different realm. It has its own pro and con but just by a glimpse you know it's an oled.

Awaiting a deal for a 2023 G14. Attempted open box at Best Buy during a recent deal. Purchased "Excellent" condition and it was trash (condition was terrible). Had to return it.

I don't want an OLED in my laptop really.

edit - There's the A14 but I'd rather the G14.

I like the Lenovo Slim 5 w/ the 4060, the build quality seems really good, but the cheapest has been $1100, which is a bit high.

Our Alienware X14 (3050 model I got for $620 after cashback) is built like a tank, I think you could knock someone out using it like a weapon - but the wifi died already, so I'm not sure the benefit of the heavy build, other than knocking someone out with it.

Bought this today for $963.14

- $150 Amex Cash back on using three Cards.
- $143.99 on 16% CB site
- $28.89 on Amex 3% cashback

My total with all the cashback is $640.26
Great deal if you maximized Amex Cash back Deal.

Thanks OP

I did purchase a Lenovo Slim with 4060 not too long ago. Think it was a 32gb version for around $1060 after all was said and done.

The battery life was terrible, even when running @ 60hz and in a non-performance mode. Fans were spinning like crazy when I was web surfing on my bed.

It seems each leap in GPU tiers is about $4-500 give or take. I'm not going to get suckered by a low powered 4070 for $1600 when I can get a 125w 4060 for $1100.

Not a fan of Alienware. Has been overpriced junk since the 90's. Took a look at this since I'm cruising for a 14" that suits my needs. If this had a full wattage 4060 I'd probably just buy it regardless of the branding but no...the search continues.

Both my kids use 3050 laptops in school. Just found out their new school year uses iPads. Arggh. So I'm not longer in the market for a laptop.

Why alienware even has the 4050 as an option is beyond me, I guess some folks will bite to have this as more of video/photo editing or something…
