I have to disagree with you there. I have 64 devices connected to four LN1301s in a router + mesh network and performance has been decent and stable for nearly a week now. I have 16 IP cameras streaming 1080p video 24/7 as well. (Half of them via Ethernet bridging with the mesh nodes)

Mind you that I only have 100Mbps Spectrum internet but I do stream/direct play 4k videos from a Plex media server to several Amazon Firestick 4k devices without issue. Overall IMO you would be hard pressed to find such relatively decent hardware for so cheap; especially a Mesh network.

It wasn't all smooth at first mind you. I kept getting disconnects; especially with the streaming IP cameras. But I discovered by disabling Express Forwarding all my streaming issues went away. (CA>Connectivity>Administration>Express Forwarding)

I'm guessing that Cisco's/Linksys' proprietary Express Forwarding routing protocol was causing havoc with the IP cams streaming capabilities. Also, disabling Node Steering seemed to make things more stable as well; mesh nodes no longer disconnect from the router when Node Steering is disabled. (CA>Wi-Fi Settings>Advanced>Node Steering)
User feedback across two years indicates better performance with all three off. Express forwarding seems to negatively affect streaming. Node steering interferws with Google Home and Apple Homekit. Client steering slows connection down if you have more than one router.

Of course, user experience can vary so feel free to experiment. if the routers are giving you problems, try turning these features off and see if it works
Still waiting for mine to ship from the last $15 deal. Just checked and Woot says SEPT 13. Hasn't even shipped yet.

It's not a deal if you never receive it.

Any good modem recommendation to go with this? Finally planning on ending the $10 a month I'm paying my internet provider for their router/modem.

Can anyone tell me how to access the web interface wirelessly? I try 192.168.1.1 and nothing comes up, even though I am connected fine to the LN1301.

Never mind, figured it out. http://myrouter.local/ works.

I appreciate the reply and I get what your saying about putting the child node on the main level. So just to confirm I would place the main router in my basement where my netgear resides now and the child node on the main floor would be on just wifi only correct? The child node doesn't need to be hooked up via ethernet correct? I've only ever used a single router before so I want to make sure I have this correct.

Also someone mentioned you have to pay return shipping to return this to Woot? I have Amazon Prime but I would like to able to return them free should they not work out. I guess I'll have to look into that a little further.
Yes that's right you would setup the child node as a wireless node so there would not need to be any ethernet cables connected to it. Just follow the instructions in the link below for enabling the mesh node using the stock firmware (note you need to use a desktop browser, the CA option won't be available in a mobile browser):

https://slickdeals.net/f/17735319-linksys-ln1301-tri-band-wifi-router-20-w-fs-amazon?p=172728612#post172728612

As for returns, I believe that if you purchase from Woot you need to pay for return shipping unless the item was defective. I believe the same would be true if you purchase this via Amazon since this also being sold by Woot and it also does not say "Prime free returns".

You're probably hooking this up to your existing gateway/router which is already using 192.168.1.1. By default the Linksys is running in router mode so it will create a different subnet, 10.x.1.1. You can find out the IP address for the Linksys by connecting a device to it and viewing the info for the connection.

Why are you setting the IP address? Not needed. Just follow the instructions and it will turn blue.

1-Setup your Main router completely.

2-Plug your child node using the wan port to the main router lan port, wait for a solid purple light on the child node before proceeding

3-Log into your main router web admin.

4-Click on CA at the bottom right.

5-Click on Connectivity and CA Router setup.

6-Click on both Add Wired and Add Wireless nodes buttons. Wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable.

7-Click Done adding Child Nodes and then Apply.

8-Now the child node light should start flashing purple and turn into a mesh mode when it turns blue.

9-Disconnect Ethernet and wait for blue light again.

10-Move node to desired location.

I am not using any child nodes. I am using this as an AP only. So only #1 applies:"Setup your Main router completely."

The light never turns blue. I want a static address so I set up the static address first, then enable bridge mode, then plug in WAN and reboot. Light never turns blue but it works.

Wireless node is the same as the AP that you are setting up. Why don't you please try the instructions I posted and it will give you the same result - Bridge mode + you can assign a static IP after it's setup as a Bridge.

Wireless node is NOTHING but a bridge!

I tried this multiple times and the child led never flashes purple for me and ends up eventually broadcasting it's default SSID with a red LED. Connected child WAN to parent LAN. Not sure what else I could be doing wrong but I've literally tried it like 5 times. Everything else is working fine from the parent node.

Try resetting the child node. Heck, reset the parent gateway just to be safe. Try again from the beginning, and even swap the child to become the parent this time.
Reset instructions:
With your node connected to power and turned on, press and hold the Reset button on the bottom. The light on top of the node will turn red and fade in pulses. Do not release the button until the light goes out and then turns bright red.

I have set up previously one unit as an AP and 2 units as a child node to that AP and everything works, all lights are blue, following the directions. Now I am trying to set up another unit as an AP only on a different network. BTW, you CANNOT assign a static IP thru their web page once you choose bridge mode. You have to do the static IP first. Once in bridge mode, the static IP is non changeable.

This is how I interpret what you are saying:
1-Setup your Main router completely. - interpretation - this is the main router, not the linksys as AP

2-Plug your child node using the wan port to the main router lan port, wait for a solid purple light on the child node before proceeding - interpretation - plug the linksys wan port to the main router LAN port

3-Log into your main router web admin.

4-Click on CA at the bottom right. - interpretation - my main router is not a linksys, so this is NA

5-Click on Connectivity and CA Router setup. - interpretation - my main router is not a linksys, so this is NA

6-Click on both Add Wired and Add Wireless nodes buttons. Wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable. - - interpretation - my main router is not a linksys, so this is NA

9-Disconnect Ethernet and wait for blue light again.

10-Move node to desired location.

since you have it working in Openwrt along with luci, please let me know steps/firmware used. i intend to have second partition for stock firmware as a backup. my goal is use it as wired AP (no mesh). am looking to set different vlanid's for different SSID's and assume it is possible with OpenWRT.

In the 5 or more times I tried I did actually reset each node exactly the way you described. I've also tried doing exactly this with the default settings so idk. When I click "Add wired node" and "Add wireless node" I have NEVER seen the LED flash purple. Maybe it's defective. Literally have tried this carefully each time to make sure I'm not the defective part of this equation..

Edit: The only thing I haven't tried is swapping the child to be the parent. That will be the next thing I try. Thanks for the idea.

Follow step one and ignore the 2nd partition stuff. Get Lytr's build here, https://github.com/testuser7/open...ax-2540ea6

Plug mx4300's wan that you just flashed into the lan of your working router to get an internet connection.
Learn to ssh and install luci, it's a quick google search that should give you the answer on openwrt's website.

Let me repeat, I setup the child node and went into the parent (DHCP reservation) and set an IP for the Child using its mac address. I am currently using it like that.
