Mind you that I only have 100Mbps Spectrum internet but I do stream/direct play 4k videos from a Plex media server to several Amazon Firestick 4k devices without issue. Overall IMO you would be hard pressed to find such relatively decent hardware for so cheap; especially a Mesh network.
It wasn't all smooth at first mind you. I kept getting disconnects; especially with the streaming IP cameras. But I discovered by disabling Express Forwarding all my streaming issues went away. (CA>Connectivity>Administration>Express Forwarding)
I'm guessing that Cisco's/Linksys' proprietary Express Forwarding routing protocol was causing havoc with the IP cams streaming capabilities. Also, disabling Node Steering seemed to make things more stable as well; mesh nodes no longer disconnect from the router when Node Steering is disabled. (CA>Wi-Fi Settings>Advanced>Node Steering)
Of course, user experience can vary so feel free to experiment. if the routers are giving you problems, try turning these features off and see if it works

Good idea! I was overthinking the situation. I purchased the second unit while they're still available and can return it if I don't need it later
I did have some problems with wifi devices disconnecting and my IP cameras freezing/dropping frames initially but disabling Express Forwarding and Node Steering resolved them. (I still have Client Steering enabled on the mesh network; Node Steering was causing the mesh nodes to disconnect from the master router every 20 minutes or so however so I needed to disable it.)
I was able to detect my issues via my NVR live camera view setup; it was obvious the IP cameras were dropping frames and having trouble streaming with Express Forwarding and Node Steering on.
As for NAT Loopback I believe it's supported and by default enabled. I tried logging into my router using my WAN IP address from inside my LAN network and I was able to login without problems. There's an option to disable it though if you want. CA>Security>Firewall>Filter Internet NAT Redirection.
I got to be honest with you; I wasn't quite sure what you meant at first. Perhaps you were trying to cast a Merlin Wizard spell of NAT Loopback Hairpin Reflection!!! But this reddit post [reddit.com] explained it pretty well and I now realize that you weren't trying to curse me
Just got done setting mine up with stock firmware. Mesh node setup was seamless per the instructions. I set everything up with the router disconnected from the internet, even the mesh nodes setup while the main router light was flashing red. Then I swapped out the old system with the new one.
I used to have fast internet and thought everything loaded up quickly, but there was a slight lag before things started loading up, That's gone, it's super snappy now and pages load almost as soon as I hit enter.
I have left Express Routing and Node Steering on for now. I will monitor for network health for a few days and see how it performs with and without.
Initial thoughts going from Edgerouter-X plus 3 Netgear R7800 APs to the MX4300 x 3, I am impressed.

Wireless mesh on openwrt is awesome as you can assign the higher 5ghz band as a mesh point and set wpa3 and 802.11r roaming, etc.
I posted a screenshot of the speed that I was getting from a wireless node, that is hooked to my desktop, and it was almost the full 500 Mbps link speed. It's an amazing router for $15 is insane, IMHO.
I already snagged 3 and maybe I have to buy more but not sure what to do... Maybe Christmas presents... Lol

Over WiFi6 2x2, I max out my 600mbps internet connection on the stock Linksys firmware. I haven't tested wireless to wired yet.
Yeah, Bridge Mode on the LN1301 is pretty basic; not having a connected device list is especially egregious. You need to set everything up first in Router mode then switch to Bridge.
The annoying thing is that the CA option is on the bottom right of the LN1301 webgui; it's pretty tiny and easily missed. What I do is create a favorite link with CA already activated; IE 192.168.?.?/ui/?.?.?.????/dynamic/home.html#casupport. That way you have CA already activated and the advanced menu options appear automatically.
Speaking about switching to Bridge mode; perhaps someone else knows a better way? It seems like many people are having difficulty accessing the LN1301 after making the switch to Bridge from Router leading me to believe that the method I recommend doesn't work well.
You do need to change the gateway and DNS1 of the LN1301 to your primary router's IP address in order to make Bridge mode be transparent/seamless though. (Clients connected to the LN1301 Bridge+mesh setup will show up as wired in your main router's connected devices list if bridge mode is setup correctly.)
I was able to circumvent the 100Mbps internet limitation by using a Iperf3 [iperf.fr] server on my main PC and running a Iperf3 Android client [google.com] though. Even then, I'm still limited to 300Mbps because that's the max my smartphone can handle. I'm able to get max 300Mbps LAN speed when about 35-50 feet from a mesh node. After that, speed is about halved.
Seems like the internal antennas on the LN1301 are not the greatest; especially going through walls. Perhaps I still need to optimize my mesh node placement though. I thought I had everything set perfect because of my relatively slow internet 100Mbps speed and I was getting those speeds anywhere in the 8000 sqft range of my Router+Mesh setup (Home + Detached garage and lawn/yard). But I recently learned about Iperf3 and now I can test for 300Mbps LAN speed and I'm starting to see some flaws in my setup...
You just won't be able to adjust the LN1301's settings when not connected to your local area network. It's really not a good idea remote connecting to your router on public APs anyways so you won't be missing much with Remote Access being disabled IMO.
Happened to me for my first node then next day my 3rd worked in seconds. I had quickly tried like 10 times and reset the node probably 4 times. I was rushing and not paying enough attention. The next day when setting ups 3rd I wasn't and no issues. These are working great no idea why similar versions of this router had mixed reviews. Seems like his basic stock firmware is stable and fast.
Slow down follow the steps using laptop and connect to web setup page and hit little ca at bottom. Maybe hit reset on bottom and start over for child nodes.
Have it wired to the main already setup router.
When clicking node setup wait min click wait

b) if not, can you sanitize and post build instructions with the changes that you had to make (based on back and forth with qosmio). thanks
