I have to disagree with you there. I have 64 devices connected to four LN1301s in a router + mesh network and performance has been decent and stable for nearly a week now. I have 16 IP cameras streaming 1080p video 24/7 as well. (Half of them via Ethernet bridging with the mesh nodes)

Mind you that I only have 100Mbps Spectrum internet but I do stream/direct play 4k videos from a Plex media server to several Amazon Firestick 4k devices without issue. Overall IMO you would be hard pressed to find such relatively decent hardware for so cheap; especially a Mesh network.

It wasn't all smooth at first mind you. I kept getting disconnects; especially with the streaming IP cameras. But I discovered by disabling Express Forwarding all my streaming issues went away. (CA>Connectivity>Administration>Express Forwarding)

I'm guessing that Cisco's/Linksys' proprietary Express Forwarding routing protocol was causing havoc with the IP cams streaming capabilities. Also, disabling Node Steering seemed to make things more stable as well; mesh nodes no longer disconnect from the router when Node Steering is disabled. (CA>Wi-Fi Settings>Advanced>Node Steering)
User feedback across two years indicates better performance with all three off. Express forwarding seems to negatively affect streaming. Node steering interferws with Google Home and Apple Homekit. Client steering slows connection down if you have more than one router.

Of course, user experience can vary so feel free to experiment. if the routers are giving you problems, try turning these features off and see if it works
Still waiting for mine to ship from the last $15 deal. Just checked and Woot says SEPT 13. Hasn't even shipped yet.

It's not a deal if you never receive it.

Yes it is preferred to have the main and mesh to be on the same channels to avoid less interference. Take a look at this link:

https://www.metageek.com/training...ls-1-6-11/

Thanks, but I already understand the basics of channel selection in the 2.4GHz realm. Last night when I got home from work I noticed my main was on channel 7 while my mesh node was on 8. Evidently the units can change their channels autonomously without being commanded by the user (via the Channel Finder option in the app). I tried making some tweaks to my 2.4 settings last night (like limiting to b/g/n only and 20MHz) but it didn't noticably help. I think these Linksys routers just aren't very good at doing 2.4GHz -- at least compared to my Asus. I do see the Linksys only has 2x2 while my Asus has 3x3 for that band -- so between that and the fact the Linksys doesn't have internal antennas probably explains what I am seeing.

Anyone else having mesh nodes showing wireless connection even thought they are wired to the main node?

Yes! I just noticed last night after setting up the mesh the evening prior. I'll probably try resetting just the mesh node this weekend to see if I can get it working wired. Let me know if you find a solution that doesn't require resetting the main because mine is currently in router mode.

I did a factory reset on all 5 of mine and started the config over. It was relatively painless since mine are just APs/mesh so there isn't much to configure. Had I been using them as a router, I probably would not have jumped to that. I suggest factory resetting each mesh AP/node one by one and re-adding them to the parent so you don't have to reconfigure your router in the hopes that works.
I set the additional mesh APs up from the website/CA section.
All that said, did you try power cycling the mesh nodes to see if that reset the backhaul?

Rebooting is what caused the issue. Rebooting nodes didn't help.

But as you said my next step is to reset each not, currently not connecting as wired and try to set it up again in the topology it's currently in.

If that doesn't work I'll try adding through the mobile app.

Could be the IP reservations I have made for each node is using the wifi MAC address.

Yes, I had that problem on a couple of them with no explanation I could uncover. I fully reset everything and they are staying as wired mesh nodes. I'm in bridge only mode as these are just APs.

My power went out for a micro second and these refused to connect afterwards. I had them as bridged mode with Ethernet connection with a dhcp reservation. Ethernet was showing as down on the main router. Tried to manually setup, tried turning on the default ISP dhcp server but nothing was working. The only thing that worked was setting the connection mode to dhcp then then back to bridged. Every other connection mode mode worked except bridged for some reason.

Well that didn't help, i reset one node using its reset button and removed it from the Mesh network using g the Linksys app.

Tried adding it back from its current location without any luck, using the app and from the browser unsuccessfully.

I basically had to take the node and connect it directly to the router and add it back from the browser. After this once the new node was moved to another room and connected to the network using Ethernet connection through a switch back to main node, it's not connecting back as wired, but making a hop from another mesh node with wifi backhaul

For people who are using DD-WRT on this...

Has anyone had success using NTFS filesystems on an external USB? I can get EXT4 and FAT32 filesystem to automatically mount, but cannot get NTFS to work, even manually. The DD-WRT v3.0-r58389 distribution includes the "ntfs3.ko" module, and can recognize that the partition has an NTFS filesytem (as seen in the /tmp/disk/sda text files), but just gives a "No such device" error when mounting. The device is there--I can read it with a "dd"--it just will not mount.

Anyone have luck with DD-WRT & USB & NTFS?

Edit: This is fixed in later releases (at least by r59171).

I've been combing through the incredible amount of information, I was able to get my mesh setup thanks to everyone. My question is, I have 3 nodes, but nearly all my devices are connected to the Master Node. Anything recommendations? Also, my nodes were occasionally going red but I haven't noticed that in sometime, I did see about turning off Client and Node Steering?

I have 4 total. My 3 are normally always connected to main node as well. Sometimes I do see one of them connect to a closer one besides the main node. Mine are always blue except for the furthest out one in the garage which is yellow. Yellow means weak, but it works fine for opening the garage with myQ

Does mesh work in AP mode? After setting it to AP mode, I can't see device list. Can't know what is connected. The node LED is solid red. After I revert it back to normal mode the node turns solid blue. I guess mess only work in router mode?

It's not the Nodes so much that are connected to the main but each individual device. I will have a PS4 literally next to the Node and it is connected to the Main node at the other side of the house.

If you log into the child nodes does it say your are in Bridge Mode? I was able to access the child node by using the IP and then a /ca. Htpps://192.168.x.x/ca

You have to manually login to the node to change the wifi channels to match the main router. Otherwise the node wifi channel will remain as Auto for 2.4 and 5Ghz.

if you happen to brick the device, i had to struggle to unbrick it.

Internet is full of instructions to unbrick linksys routers.

you can use any tftp server

try renaming the firmware to tortuga.img
also to flash firmware use command

run flashimg
and
run flashimg2

run both to flash both partitions.

this command was hard to find, i spend a sleepless night to find the right command.

update_both_images/flash_pri_image do not work on this.

Trying to set up LN1301 as dumb access point with static IP. Stock firmware.

I have tried all methods, including "Connectivity - Internet Settings - Type .. -Static IP" before
switching to Bridge mode, yet AP (works but) _always_ gets some other dynamic IP.

I know I can assign some static IP to LN1301 MAC address on a main router,
but prefer to set it on LN1301 itself. Is it possible?
