this phone was $50 new from Walmart last year (both in store and online) and after a month or two of prepaid service it was unlocked.

for example: https://slickdeals.net/f/17036050-walmart-stores-64gb-apple-iphone-se-for-straight-talk-2022-1-month-service-84-availability-may-vary

that is still cheaper than $170 from woot. also new phones are going to be announced next week. might as well wait and see, unless you have a dire need for a cheap, supported iPhone right now.

I bought one of these new back in April for the following reasons:

5G support
Several years left of Apple iOS updates
Home button and screen size that match my old iPhone 6S
Great processor and speed (same processor as iPhone 13)
64GB storage
Lightning connector to use with my existing chargers

It has been a great phone for my needs. If you want iOS and 5G it's an attractive choice for those on a budget at sub-$200. Of course you can get it cheaper carrier locked from some carriers, but I buy unlocked only to sidestep any unlocking issues.

I'm a fan of the thumb sensor, but I feel like this is overpriced for a scratch and dent item. Total wireless has it for $99 if you switch plus $50 for an unlimited plan for one month, which makes it cheaper. Yes, I know it's two months to unlock, but still: I'd rather save $20 and get a new, unlocked phone.

I would agree that this price carries some risk, as you never know how a scratch and dent item will show up. The one I bought new was $167 from VIP Outlet with full warranty, so new ones can be had in this price range if you're willing to shop around a little. It's highly likely that the prices on these will fall when the next generation iPhones are released, as is usually the case.

In the past I've rolled the dice on used one-owner unlocked iPhones on eBay being sold by the original owner due to an upgrade. You have to seek them out amongst all the resellers, but they're there and are often good values on phones in excellent condition. My last 2 iPhones prior to the SE3 (a 6 and a 6S for $80-$100 at the time) I bought this way, and both were like new but needed batteries. With cheap battery replacements I got several years of use out of each of them with no issues. I prefer iOS but loathe Apple's high prices on their products, so I tend to buy phones that are a generation or 2 old but still have substantial Apple support for the future. Seems to be the sweet spot for getting the best bang for your buck as an Apple user.

Straight Talk $75 for refurb and 1 mo plan for $35 is a better deal. Phone unlocks after 60 days.

This is just a so-so deal, but the SE is a solid phone. I bought one at full price when it was released and am still happy with it. The nicer phones are just too big. I like being able to use my phone with one hand. I dread the day when my SE is no longer supported.

Howso? This is a 10 year old design at this point.
