Serious question: what is the appeal of the brand?

Is it only the hype? Is it good quality? Good environmental practices?

I don't mind paying for quality but would like to know what I'm getting for my money.
3 daughters here. This brand peaked in popularity about a decade ago. We had several different sizes, all of which I thought were overpriced. The good news was they turned out to be much more durable than every Jansport and Under Armor backpack that my kids trashed during school. I still think they're overpriced, but 10-12 years later, they're the only "school" bags that we hung on to and still occasionally use for theme parks or beach trips.

Thanks to you and the others who provided their comments.

I had a Jansport that lasted me through college and much more. Their lifetime warranty was also nice because I sent it back when it was getting ragged edges on the inside and they cleaned it up and sent it back....no charge.

I look/feel the Fjallraven back that I found at a thrift store. Maybe it was fake, but it felt no different than other backpacks I've had. But if it's super durable, then I would think deeper about purchasing one for myself.

I like that a lot of their products use wax instead of chemicals for water resistance.

FWIW, Fjallraven has a limited lifetime warranty [fjallraven.com] for its products. I mailed in my backpack and parka after a year-ish of use when lockdowns just started. Two weeks later, they were able to replace a button that had fallen off the jacket; as for the backpack, they were unable to repair the zipper that was detaching and sent me a completely new bag.

Thanks for the info. I don't mind paying for good quality and customer support. I had a similar issue with a Patagonia backpack where they repaired a backpack for free.
