Yes. I have this set, it's fine for beginners. I wouldn't get an expensive paddle unless you want to be super competitive.

Just wanted to add that I've cracked both balls that came with the set so the ball may not be quality.

Don't do it! Start with something good like T700 thermoformed carbon fiber. Not much more!

I just got into it and I am now hooked. It's not about how competitive you want to be, but how often you will be playing. Even in non-competitive environment, you still want to win I hope (as do your partner). Try the game out borrowing a paddle to play. If you think you will even play once a week or every 2 weeks, get something better. If you think you will play twice a year, then this is probably fine. If you play enough, you will eventually get frustrated by the limitations of cheap paddles. You really don't have to spend a lot to get a decent paddle either.

What paddles would you recommend for beginners who've played tennis?

I think you should play a little bit to get an idea of what are your strengths and deficiency. Then you can decide whether you want a control paddle or a power paddle. Also you need to decide what is your budget. Some of the msrp can get scary but if you look hard there are deals to be had especially when they clear out old models for new ones.

But if you want something now, I don't think you can go wrong with Friday paddles. You can usually get 2 for $100.

Sign up for a clinic. It's usually a few dollars and they'll have paddles available to try. Also, once you find somewhere to play regulars will usually have extra paddles and in my area the community is super friendly and willing to share for an hour.
