I asked bc currently owning the 86UPro and want to upgrade my AC nodes. Did a little research and found the 86UPro has faster CPU while this one is faster than the 68U. It is more comparable to the 82U. I guess if one can get this at lower price, may actually need a decent deal. The Pro is $250 so definitely a lot more costly than this one.
I also got this to replace an aging 68u AC node. I think it's going to be a perfect replacement and improvement. For use as just a node, it's almost overkill. Faster processor and has a 2.5g port. I think it's a good deal at $120 for a 1-2 year old model. Would be super slick at $100.

Yeah, the AC68U is old and weak teaming up with my AX86U Pro and AC86U. I want to slowly phase out the AC for Wifi6, and this does seem like a decent deal. Read about the AX68U that costs similar but suffers from connection issue, so that's out. I guess the reason this isn't a super popular device vs the 68/86 family is b/c of Merlin. Although I read that it has OpenWrt development.

Yeah. Looks like it's supported by OpenWRT. I also think people overlook these "gaming" routers because they think they're just for gamers, when in reality they make excellent general home networking routers. It's time to switch away from the AC series either way as these are being end of lifed by Asus. I know the AC68U is already, and I don't want to be using a router that has exploits that aren't going to be patched in the future.

Agreed 100%. Bought the AX86U Pro during sale only, and nowadays I just want something that's decent and affordable, so I don't feel bad when newer model/tech arrived and I have to upgrade. I think will pull the trigger since I still have the 10 off 75 from Discover. Should last a few years until the next upgrade.
I'm looking for a cheap 6e router to use for same room game streaming from my PC to a handheld. The wifi 6 routers go as cheap as $15 (Linksys) but I have not seen 6e for anything close to that

I need to replace my mom's Xfinity combo to end the rental. Any suggestions for a combo? Why are modems never sd's? She still needs the telephone jack for her pacemaker. Thanks, appreciated.

Because your mom needs a phone jack you're going to be extremely limited and the rental is probably the way to go TBH
Edit: I'll be damned arris now sells directly to the customer....
https://shop.surfboard.com/surfbo...telephony/ so in theory you could use that and any router depending on parental need honestly the $20 router is probably enough if the living space is 2K or less sqft... There is really no reason to get a combo unless someone really doesn't want two devices because the modem will not be outdated nearly as quickly as the Wi-Fi....
On this specific deal Unless you need a 2.5 g Port now (and only one) there is a very strong argument to wait as multi gig switches and devices are becoming more common and the prices aren't going to go up

Asus firmware is good, but Merlin is fan-freaking-tastic. It's like the Shelby version of a Mustang.
