Get a clue what you get for $20 and then come back and tell us how we can get all that's included for free. Keep in mind most people don't live under a rock and have to be able to share files with work and the rest of the world and need 100% compatibility with these apps.
Anyone who actually uses office heavily knows that the google, openoffice, libreoffice, etc can't compete. For the casual user, they're perfectly fine, but I use Excel extensively and also Outlook (not the garbage free version that harvests your info, the real one included here). Along with 1TB of storage and I'm grandfathered into them hosting my email domain for free, it is absolutely worth the $30 a year. Trying to open word files in one of those free programs always results in formatting issues that have to be fixed, then when someone else opens them in real MS Word, they're messed up there. Send your resume to a recruiter (who always require word format so they can remove your personal info) and it will be all messed up, not a good look for the employer.
If one of the free apps is enough for you, fine, but stop telling other people it is good enough for them when you don't know their situation.
Plus OneDrive has as much value IMO as Office so convinced it's fantastic deal
I get this through my employer and everybody gets it through their school pretty much. I have no idea who is buying this either you are unemployed or you work somewhere so small that they don't give you a license at home.

Well, for one thing, you don't want to be using work OneDrive for your personal use.
I'm currently paying $2 per month for the additional 100GB storage provided by Microsoft 365 Basic. This seems like a pretty good deal for a lot more storage for a few pennies extra per month.
Nope, but I have my own NAS and have had one for a long time, so the online storage portion is not worth it for me.
RAID is not a backup. One wrong mouse click, one virus, one accidental or malicious delete, one house fire, one theft and it could be gone. Most NAS now have snapshots which may help for some of those. Not saying you should use a cloud service but you should have something offline or near offline out of band backup for important things on that NAS you do not want to lose. Maybe you do and great but there should be more to the story than "I have a NAS". If you are cloudless (or using the cloud), a cheap portable USB drive you plug in and backup to once a month and then set on the shelf until next month is better than nothing.

There's probably also another group that get it for work compatibility reasons.
If someone doesn't fall into one of those two categories, then yes, free versions make sense.

You can even buy several and add several years, just don't try to go more than 5 years, that's the limit.

Yea unless you need a specific thing from MS then people should try Libre Office first. Free and the newest generation works really well.
