How do you convert this to family?
If you already have an active family plan, just redeem the key and it just adjusts how much time it gives you.

Anyone who actually uses office heavily knows that the google, openoffice, libreoffice, etc can't compete. For the casual user, they're perfectly fine, but I use Excel extensively and also Outlook (not the garbage free version that harvests your info, the real one included here). Along with 1TB of storage and I'm grandfathered into them hosting my email domain for free, it is absolutely worth the $30 a year. Trying to open word files in one of those free programs always results in formatting issues that have to be fixed, then when someone else opens them in real MS Word, they're messed up there. Send your resume to a recruiter (who always require word format so they can remove your personal info) and it will be all messed up, not a good look for the employer.

If one of the free apps is enough for you, fine, but stop telling other people it is good enough for them when you don't know their situation.
I've always converted to pdf before sending.

Recruiters will not accept PDFs typically, they want to remove your info and replace it with their info and "candidate number xxxxx"

If you time things right and follow the right process, it makes more sense to add several years of individual, then pay a few dollars for a month of family, which will upgrade your entire time to family. You basically end up paying the individual rate for family that way. This is easiest if you have no plan or an individual plan currently, however you can convert your family plan to individual if you're near the expiration date in order to do it. Family members will briefly lose access but probably won't even notice.

Anyone get the following error while trying to redeem the code? (Redeem 12month personal to a current family plan) "Please come back later to redeem your product key. Error Code: UncaughtClientError"
Follow up from support:

Was it purchased directly from Microsoft? There has been instances where licenses were purchased from other retailers like Amazon or Best Buy with auto-renewal. These subscriptions did not allow stacking and the customer had to wait for the subscription to end before redeeming.

first time I hear about this

I get it for free through my employer. As do most people that need this software.

If you're paying for this, unless you're writing it off, you're doing it wrong as Google products are already similar (maybe even better) and free.
I got it for free when I work for an university but guess what, I don't work there anymore. 99% of the people don't have that perk. Although there are alternatives, some of the products Microsoft offers just work better. Word and excel is mandatory on every computer. This is coming from a guy that migrated all his financial templates to Google drive. Word is also a mandatory if you are working on resumes. I tried alternatives, didn't work as well as word.

I'm currently on a Family plan that renews in April. Any advice? Thanks!

Might just be me, but I used this site at the beginning of the month and then I tried to redeem the code and it said the code was already used. I tried talking to customer service and never really got a resolution. Still waiting..

Can someone tell me if/why it's better to get Office 365 vs Office 2021 at half of the price and using that until my PC breaks and I forget the license key or can't download the app 10 years down the line?

https://www.groupon.com/deals/instnatkeys-us

Thank you in advance.

Some people like/want the additional features of 365 such as 1TB of cloud storage per account and the latest versions of Office. If you have no use or interest for those additional features, then the 2021 version is plenty.

Thank you for the information. I'm an idiot and completely didn't read the 1TB part of the description. That's actually cheaper (if you include Office) than the 200GB plan I'm currently paying $30 a year for Google Drive. I might have to switch and test this out.

I just checked the website and it's cheaper to do the Office 365 for $99 a year with 6TB of data vs Google Drive's 2TB for $99.

It's 1TB of storage per account, up to 6 accounts. If you don't mind making extra email addresses with the family plan, then it's definitely better than your current pricing with Google. You can also buy the family plan through your employer for $70 plus tax (if your employer participates in the Microsoft Workplace Discount Program).

99 a year is the list price, nobody pays that, that's what SD is for Smilie

Buy 5 of these for $150, add them to your MS account, then pay for 1 month of family through MS (you have to wait a month I believe as the most you can have is 5 years total). That converts the entire 5 years to family for like $7 more. Or do 1 year or 2 or 3 or whatever you want.
